Fairy costume: make a flower fairy wand

This flower fairy wand takes a bit more effort than just buying one from the local toy shop, but the result is a unique fairy princess accessory to be treasured for years. Watch the video to see how to make this cute wand for a fairy costume, or for everyday fairy fun.

What you need:

  • Fake flower
  • 30cm piece of dowel (about 5mm diameter)
  • 75cm of thick ribbon
  • 50cm of thin contrasting ribbon for decoration
  • Masking tape
  • Glue (a hot glue gun works best)
  • Scissors
  • Clothes peg

Activity:

Watch the below video to see how to create a pretty flower fairy wand.

First pull the head off your flower.  Use a hot glue gun (or Tarzan’s Grip or strong glue) to glue the flower head to the piece of dowel.

If there’s a little bit of stalk left on your flower, use that to secure it to the dowel with masking tape.

Wait for the glue to dry.

Take your thick ribbon and dot it with glue. Now wind it around the piece of dowel so the whole thing is covered in ribbon.

Peg it at the bottom while it dries.

Now decorate your wand with some extra ribbon.

Give it to your fairy princess so she can go and spread her magic!

You can pair it with this matching no-sew ballerina tutu for the perfect fairy outfit.
