Halloween costumes: Easy bat wings

Halloween costumes: Easy bat wings

Did you hear that too? The collective sigh of parents when they hear book week coming back around. It doesn't have to be all bad. Here's a great idea for book week and it's simple to make!

What you need:

  • black stretchy fabric (lycra/spandex is best as it doesn’t fray)
  • scissors
  • measuring tape
  • needle and black thread or sewing machine

Amount of fabric required:

Width = arm span from wrist to wrist (or Ax2)
Length = back of neck to waist (B) + half circumference around widest part of arm (C)

Number of players:

Activity:

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2. Fold fabric in half to halve the width. (Folded over sleeve allowance C is just to give you an idea of what to measure)

Step 3. Cut out semicircle. D is the measurement from center back to shoulders. ( the bottom of the semicircle should be the length B.

Step 4. Fold over your sleeve again and cut out scallops for edges.

Step 5. This is how it should look once it's unfolded.

Step 6. Fold over the seam allowance and sew.

Step 7. This is how it should all look once it's finished.

Wearing the wings as a shrug over a black top will be the perfect solution to book week at school.
