Paper plate Jack-o’-lantern

Paper plate Jack-o’-lantern

Kids just love celebrating Halloween. Get them to craft their own Halloween Jack-o’-lanterns this year and have them hang them up outside for extra decorative fun to be proud of.

What you need:

  • paper plate
  • orange craft paint
  • craft foam – orange, yellow & brown
  • scissors
  • glue

Number of players:
1+

Activity:

First paint the back of your paper plate orange and set aside to dry.

You may want to give it a second coat of paint.

Use the yellow craft foam to cut out facial shapes.

Try triangles or crosses for eyes, and a crescent shape for the mouth, with a few rectangular teeth missing.

When your paper plate is dry, trim it into a pumpkin shape.

Just cut a dip in the top where the stem should be and then trim the bottom to flatten it a bit.

Glue your facial shapes onto the painted side of your plate.

Cut two leaves out of the green craft foam and glue them to the back of the plate, at the top of the pumpkin.

Let the tops of the leaves stick out above the pumpkin.

Cut a triangular stem from the brown craft foam and glue this between the two green leaves at the top to complete your pumpkin!

Notes:

  • Be as creative as you like – use crazy colours or glue on some hair using wool, cotton balls or pipe cleaners.
  • Before gluing on your brown stem, try punching a hole in the top – you can then use this to hang your Jack-o’-lantern from a string.
  • Use small paper plates, and turn your Jack-o’-lanterns into party invitations – just write your party details on the back!
