Pool game for baby: Ring a rosie

Learning to go under the water comfortably is a tough challenge for some kids. Quite often they feel scared to take that step. This activity will help to teach the children to happily put their heads under the water, if only breifly, it is still a great step forward.

What you need:

  • Shallow pool. Waist deep for Mum or Dad is fine.
  • A supervising adult

Number of players:
2+

Activity:

Hold your child facing you with their legs wrapped around your waist.

Start moving in a circular or spinning motion and sing:
Ring a ring a rosie, a pocket full of posies
A-tishoo, A-tishoo, we all fall down.
Count 1,2,3.

On 3, lower your body with your child down so their heads goes under the water.

Notes:

  • This song teaches kids to overcome the fear of going under water. Make sure you use the cue 1,2,3 and only go under on 3. This will ensure your child is ready to go under and they will learn that cue.
