Carving up the school holidays

The 2019 ski season is due to start during June, so the April holidays is an ideal opportunity to get the kids practicing their ski and board skills indoor on the Auckland slopes.

Snowplanet run a school holiday programme designed to enable children from 5 to 16 years to develop their skiing or snowboarding skills. Throughout the program children are separated into groups depending on their age and skill level.

What’s in store for the kids

The programme runs Monday to Friday in both weeks of the school holidays and includes:

  • A two-hour lesson each day (includes snow pass) with a friendly instructor (you can choose either the 9.30am to 11.30am session or 1pm- 3pm.
  • Rental equipment for each day (skis, boots and poles or snowboard and boots and a helmet, excludes clothing).
  • A small snack at break time each day.
  • Shared ‘graduation’ meal on Friday where the kids can hang out with their instructor and receive a certificate.

What you will need to bring

The children will need warm suitable clothing including gloves as the temperature inside the snow dome is around -5°. Rental clothing (jacket and pants), gloves, and wrist guards can be hired.

Alternatively, there is variety of items available for purchase including beanies, socks, thermals, neck warmers and helmets.

Term time activities

If you can’t make the school holiday programme or you are keen to keep the kids skills up, Snowplanet offer a range of classes during term including an after school programmes and an advanced programme for those kids who want to develop their skills in ski racing and freestyle ski and boarding.
