Countdown’s annual Kids Hospital Appeal is turning 12 this year and to celebrate they aim to raise $1.3 million for children’s hospitals and wards for each of the 19 New Zealand District Health Boards.
Even if we haven’t used the hospital services ourselves, we all know a family who has, and whether it’s for a short stay or for longer, it’s always a tough time. Through Countdown’s Kids Hospital Appeal, customer donations and Countdown staff fundraising efforts help make a huge difference to the life of a little one and their family during a traumatising time,
How is the money raised spent?
All the funds raised (excluding GST and raffle licence fees) are donated to the hospitals and wards throughout NZ so they can get what they need and continue to help sick kids.
This year Gisborne Hospital is aiming to build their first ever playground, Hawkes Bay want to fund a critical cooling unit while Waitakere Hospital in Auckland will be building a parent room at the Special Care Baby Unit. There are around 7000 babies born each year in the Waitakere hospital region, with one in 10 born premature and requiring specialised care. The parent room will allow families with babies who are fragile and have complex conditions can stay overnight to ensure that before they go home, they can cope independently with their babies, including feeding, nurturing and administering any medications.
