Have fun in the summer sun with Banana Boat

Kiwis are very aware of the harmful effects of the sun but recent research* shows that we aren’t that great at keeping up with our sun smart routines. Do you remember to reapply sunscreen after two hours in the sun? Or after swimming? The research revealed that in the past 12 months 35% of Kiwi kids have been sunburnt and parents admitted that forgetting or finding it too time consuming was their main reasons for not applying or reapplying sunscreen to their kids.

How much? As a guide, each application requires 7 teaspoons of product – 1 per limb, 1 for your front, 1 for your back and one for your face, neck and ears
How often? Reapply at least every two hours or more often after swimming, sweating or towelling off – make it simple for yourself by setting a timer on your phone

“Reapplying sunscreen at the right time is really important, but less than a third of Kiwis are reapplying every two hours according to the research, putting families at risk of sun damage. It’s also very important to remember to reapply after swimming, perspiring or towelling off.” (Associate Professor Rosemary Nixon, Consultant Dermatologist).

Definitely one of the best sunscreens out there. Not greasy at all and does not leave that sticky feeling. Smells good, too. Best of all, it truly protects everyone’s skin from the harsh rays of the sun (went to the beach 2x with rellies) – baby niece, kids, and adults alike – even with all the boogie board surfing, swimming, and splashing against the waves.Making sure we have spare for my daughter and son to bring with them to their respective camps in a couple of weeks. Many thanks for letting our family try the Banana Boat sunscreens out!!

We have been trialling the banana boat sunscreens.
For both we have used playing and swimming and have had no sunburn or skin irritation.
My 7 and 5 year old can easily use the roller to apply the baby sunscreens themselves. I find it easier to use the roller on my 18 month old than just using cream.
I love the dry balance sunscreen as it doesnt feels greasy and thick when you apply it. I have used it on myself and my kids and recommended it to friends. I would purchase both of these banana boat sunscreens again

Loved being part of this trial thank you. My son’s and I have been spending a lot of time in the sun recently at the beach. Dry balance had a lovely smell, easy to apply, nice consistency and didn’t irritate my son’s sensitive skin. And we didn’t get burnt! Would definitely recommend and have since bought another banana boat sunscreen to add to the collection 😊

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this trial. I loved both products. The roll on is super convenient, rolls on & rubs in fuss free. Easy to apply to my two energetic boys. Definitely recommend! I loved the Dry Balance sunblock! Smells amazing, non greasy, rubs into your skin easily, protects really well & I didn’t get burnt after a couple hours in the sun & waves! Winner! I’ll definitely be buying this one in the future!

Just brilliant…I really loved the new banana boat product…it felt like some expensive moisturiser rather than boring sunscreen…the fragrance was so sweet not too much just perfect…it absorbed well into our skin and disappeared…so I wasn’t rubbing it onto the kids for ages which always annoys them…..the roll on was so easy..it was a fun activity to do with the baby while singing a nursery rhyme and again no excessive rubbing on…..Will be buy a lot more and recommending this to all for sure!

Thank you so much for letting us be a part of this trial. Alot of sunscreens give my children rashes but no problems with Banana Boat. Fantastic long lasting coverage, very happy with the result 😊😊

This sunblock has got to be the best by far, firstly I only applied once to my back and I was at the beach all day and my back didn’t get burnt however I got burnt in places it wasn’t put so that proves that this stuff really works! The smell is beautiful too almost like watermelon I reckon! The roll on is an added bonus to reapply on my kids faces etc when I can catch them! All in all I highly recommend banana boat sunscreen to anyone that wants decent protection!

I was super excited to get these products- right in time for our beach holiday- yay!
The roll-on worked well. We have a super pale and squiggly 8 month old and the sunscreen was easy to apply and easy to throw in the beach bag (and know the lid wasn’t going to mysteriously flip up and coat everything. Yay, the screw on lid!).
My 5 year old and his 4 year old cousin really liked the independence of being able to put on their own sunscreen- and us mums liked knowing we could leave them to it and not be faced with a huge mess.
Plus – no sunburn, which is kinda the whole point.

The matte finish spf50 was also a good product for us.
Husband, who has quite sensitive skin, really loves it and uses it everyday, he commented on the nice fragrance, the un-sticky feel and how it performs like a much more expensive product ( I worked for a luxury skin care brand, and would often get sunscreen that would retail for over $50).
My brother-in-law liked how it didn’t make his bald head shiney.

All in all it was a win from us.

I was abit sceptical to trial the banana boat sunscreen but we all gave it a go.

The roll on bottle itself is genius my kids have never applied so much sunblock before. Even though the roll on is directed at “baby’s” the whole family from the ages of 40 down to 4 used it. Unfortunately the roll on ended up stinging and irritating 3 of the family members faces and they had almost like burn rashes after a few days away camping, which they complained even water hurt when they got any on their face. We have now cleaned out the remains and reused the roll on bottle.

The dry balance sunscreen has a gorgeous smell you wouldnt even know it’s sunblock. It definitely leaves a matte finish and is great when at the beach. Have had no issues with this bottle!

The Dry Balance sunscreen has a lovely smell and was easily absorbed with no yucky sticky feeling like the other brands. As it was absorbed so easily, it meant that no sand would stick to us at the beach. Was easy to throw into the bag and not worry about accidentally getting squashed and leaking like the pump ones. We will definitely be getting more of this one when we run out!
The Baby Roll-on was such a big hit with my nearly three year old. He loves rolling it on himself and helps roll it on mummy too, which makes it a great fun game. I also thought it had a lovely smell.

Whoever thought of putting sunscreen in a roll on bottle is a genius!! So easy to apply on a wriggly one year old.
The packaging on both items was bright and inviting. Makes a change from the boring dull colours other companys use.

I was a bit sceptical about the Dry Balance bottle as it made it look like it was nade for people with dry slin at first glance but after I read the bottle, I realized it wasnt. Went on well and didnt leave a greasy feel!

    Thank you

For the past week I have trialled these products on my 3 children. Although the roll on banana boat suncreen is aimed at babys miss 6 loves taking this around with her and its easy enough for her to top up her sunscreen during the day. The dry balance sunscreen lotion is definitley now our ‘go to’, its great to apply a suncreen that doesnt end up sticking to clothes and it really is non greasy unlike other products. Ive also noticed that with other suncreens they tend to run into the kids eyes when applied to their face during the day from sweat, water etc, this however has not irritated their eyes.I have to hide this from the girls as it has such a nice fragrance and they love putting it on all the time. While we have been using these products there has been no incidence of sunburn even after long days at the beach, will be buying more once we run out.

Thank you for allowing us to review and try these products. I havent heard great things about the banana boat products but I was plesently suprised by these! I tried them both on my 13 month old daughter who has normal skin. The roll on was easy to apply and also the dry balance didnt leave her skin feeling greazy. I liked that they are waterproof as my girl was constantly jumping in the pool so knowing she was still protected from the sun was a bonus. Thumbs up from us! 🙂

Thanks so much much for the opportunity for my family to trail these two products we have 2 girls 3 and 5 and a wee boy 11 months. Both sunscreens were very good. The girls loved the roll on and was easy for them to apply. My kids have sensitive skin and they didn’t have any reactions. My kids love the water and with a sun screen that is good in the water it is a great find for us so we will keep using this. The sunscreen didn’t have a song smell and wasn’t to sticky so was great to use at the beach. Great sun screens to try would Def recommend

Well as Murphy dictates the sunscreen arrives in the post and Wellington’s glorious summer takes a break! So from first impressions I love the smell of the Dry Balance cream…. It went on well (to myself) and left no oily residue. My toddler used the roll on, which he found easy to apply, he spends plenty of time in the sand and dirt and I found nothing sticked to him like it can with other products. I have not had issues with him burning with past creams, and although it was not the nicest of few days this product has proved sound. He is also allergic to many creams, and I have found no reaction with this which is great. He did note it did not smell as ‘yummy’ as his mummy! (but unscented is fine for a toddler) As a Kindy teacher I am outside for a fair portion of the day, and weekends I am out and about with the toddler, so a good cream I feel confident with is important.

Thank you for letting us try this.

The Dry Balance is a wonderful product. My 11 year old son was very impressed with this. It says that it has a Matte finish on the bottle and true to its words it does. My son was feeling very oily and shiny with the two other brands that we were using. This is certainly a winner for us. I will be buying this when we run out!! I would definitely recommend it to other parents and well to be honest all people – i will be recommending this to everyone. The kids haven’t been burnt while wearing this either and its been very, very hot out there. The only thing that my 11 year old didn’t like was the smell (maybe a little strong for him) but all good as far as i am concerned and i think he is used to it now.

The baby sunscreen has been an awesome fit as well. It is so easy to rub in (really easy so don’t even need to help my little one) based on that alone I absolutely recommend it to other Mums and Dads. Says that it doesn’t rub into eyes and so far so good.

We will be looking out for other Banana Boat products to try as well because we are very impressed with what we have had to try here.

Its very informative on the labels and they are unique looking.

    🙂 Thank you again.

Thank you for letting my family trial these products. They arrived at the beginning of the week and i eagerly awaited the perfect sunny day to trial them on myself and my two year old daughter. Finally, on Thursday: it was a sunny day at the early childhood centre where i work and so i trialled them out. Since then, there have been other sunny days that i have used them.

    Here’s what i thought:

    The baby roll on sunscreen:
In a convenient roll on small bottle, this sunscreen is a lifesaver with an active toddler. I can easily roll it on her skin and it rubs in really well, leaving no residue like other sunscreens might. The bottle said it lasts four hours and so, with that in mind: i reapplied regularly and it covered my two year old well and she did not get sunburnt. Definitely would recommend this for other parents as it is effective and so much easier to use in a roll on bottle.

    Banana boat Dry Balance sunscreen:
I have been using this sunscreen on myself and at first, i was a bit unsure as i have been using other banana boat sunscreens and still been getting sunburnt. I applied this sunscreen in the morning i was working and spending lots of time outside. It felt different as it has more texture to the sunscreen but when it was rubbed in, i felt smooth on the skin. I really liked how well it rubbed in and didnt seem or feel like you were wearing it. As the day went on, i was still uncertain of it’s effectiveness until the end of the day: when i WAS NOT sunburnt. Therefore, i can recommend this as an effective sunscreen.

Overall, these products were very effective, i was really happy that we did not get sunburnt using these products (unlike other products including some of the rest of the banana boat range) and i would recommend them to others, especially the baby roll on with it’s ease for active toddlers.

I received our Banana Boat products last week. When I first opened the parcel, I thought what neat packing and the bottle was pretty cool too.
I tested the Dry Balance on my 3 year old son, lately because of the weather he has been spending a lot of time outdoors so I needed a product that would last at least 2-4 hours and easy to use. The dry balance did just that- super easy to use, easy to apply on and didn’t leave any white marks on the skin (unlike some products) non greasy and nice light tropical smell. I love how it didn’t leave my hands sticky after applying. He spent a couple of hours in the sandpit, and he was absolutely fine -didn’t get sunburnt. I would totally recommend this product and buy in future. Unfortunately the second product- the baby roll on sunscreen I wasn’t able to test on my 6 month old because he has pretty bad eczema, so again my 3 year old was my guinea pig. He loved the way it rolled and glided into his skin, something a bit fun and different. This one didn’t have much of a scent -which is good for younger babies and a bit lighter in texture than the Dry Balance-more light a light lotion:. Again did a superb job of keeping my sons skin protected. Overall great products from Banana Boat:)

We were excited to try these products. Especially the roll on! My kids hadn’t used a roll-on sunscreen prior to this trial. The whole family is using these banana boat products and really like them – the kids really love the roll-on. I have a 6 year old that usually complains about putting on sunscreen, but the roll-on appealed to both of them, and both the older child and the 2yr old happily applied the sunscreen all over with ease – including their faces. They enjoyed the ‘facepainting’ and I just evened the coverage up for them once they’d put it on their face and body. My 6 year old commented that it didn’t sting his eyes – so that’s a win. The biggest win though was that the roll-on was so popular they’d come back every hour or 2 to reapply the sunscreen – Yay!! We’re a slip, slop slap family so don’t just rely on sunscreen to stop sunburn – however they’re outside a lot and they certainly haven’t been burnt while using the Banana boat products. Us grownups really liked the Dry Balance sunscreen – I liked the Matte finish – and didn’t feel greasy and shiny from the sunscreen like you do with other brands. The husband also liked this product. I’m not aware of any other brand offering the matte finish sunscreen – so I’ll definitely be buying this one again – and the kids loved the roll-on so we’ll continue with this also – we haven’t yet done a lot of swimming but I’m glad the baby and kids products have that water resistance and that the product won’t run in their eyes (the biggest complaint of sunscreen when swimming!) I’d probably buy my oldest the Kids Roll on, and the little girl the Baby roll on so they had one each – to keep them enthusiastic about applying sunscreen too! As grownups – I’m quite keen to try the Spray Dry Balance as sometimes the spray sunscreen is handy for when you’re on the go! I’d definitely recommend both of these products to family/friends – we’re very pale skinned little family and none of us have had any sunburn/colouring while wearing the products – but it doesn’t remove the need for all the other precautions with sun exposure – hats, clothing shade etc. Thank you again for choosing our family to trial these products!

  20. Piglet 21/12/2017 at 9:34 am

Thank you for choosing us to trial these products! I seem to be always chasing my 10 year old son round with a sunscreen bottle, he hates it! However, the Banana Boat Roll on got his straight away…he loves it. Easy to use, no sticky hands and very effect. My daughter loves the smell of the lotion bottle, I do too! Very effective sunscreen, great for their sensitive skin and definitely products I would recommend. We are converted! Thank you.

  21. Crystalwinter 20/12/2017 at 6:56 pm

We loved the dry balance sunblock! It smells amazing compared to other sun blocks. And as promised does not leave you greasy or feeling oily. Much better than Kmart brand sunblock and even the banana boat sport spray. The roll on though isn’t ideal for my son. He’s not a fan of putting sun block on and really which toddler is. Roll on is more time consuming in terms of getting coverage. When the novelty of rolling it on wears off I imagine it’ll be much tougher to Apply. We prefer the dry for both Mum and son. Can rub it in my hands to warm it up for him too which is ideal. I’ve converted from Kmart sunblock that’s for sure.

  22. lovejoy900 19/12/2017 at 1:05 pm

Thank you very much for letting me try these products 🙂 I am a new mother so am new to trying sunscreens on my little boy. I first tried the Banana boat roll on for babies and find it to be a good product eg. protecting him from the sun but did find when I rolled it on him it came out quite quick and quite a lot however it is still a great product. I have also tried Banana boat dry balance and this worked great on myself and I have also used it on my 7month old which worked just as good for him as the roll on babies. Also the smell wow it has to have the loveliest smell of any sunscreen I have ever had. Lovely products and I would recommend these to anyone!

  23. tillyson 19/12/2017 at 12:19 pm

Thank you so much for letting my family trial the banana boat sunscreen. It was very easy to apply and not smelly. We have used it at the beach and we found that the sand didn’t stick to us like it usually does. My son said it didn’t run into his eyes when he went for a swim. I tried the roll on on my 1 year old niece and she started rolling it on herself with a bit of guidance. It worked excellent on her. Thanks you bananaboat and kidspot. I will recommend this product to my friends and family.

  24. Gemma Bergin 18/12/2017 at 2:43 pm

Wow, just got these now, my eldest son opened it and some popped out the top, so thought I’d try it on one of my babies – well when they say non-greasy, they are so right, its the first sunscreen that I have not had to wash my hands after, I imagine that at the beach, there will be no sand sticking to it! I then tried the roll on with my other twin baby, awesome, not as non-greasy as the other, but super easy to apply (if it wasn’t for the wriggly baby!) and easy to rub in! Thanks Banana Boat and Kidspot for allowing us to review this product, it will make summer with 5 boys a non-greasy and non-sticky event!

  25. elishavdz 17/12/2017 at 11:07 pm

We are off camping this summer for the first time, so would love to trial this product on my family. We always wear hats and sunglasses and try to stay in the shade when the sun is at its peak.

  26. Brenda Kidd 17/12/2017 at 8:34 pm

I’m a kindergarten teacher in Whanganui and we go through a massive amount of sunblock each day – we have 40 children and we apply twice a day. I would be really keen to try this product on my own children during the holidays to see if it would be suitable to purchase for kindy. 🙂

  27. sarahnrob 17/12/2017 at 9:33 am

I would love to try this on our two girls – 3yo and baby. They are active so we are looking for something easy to get on that also last well. These look perfect

  28. Charmaine Mckenzie 16/12/2017 at 4:31 pm

I would love to trial this product.! Like all families we go through oodles of sunscreen. My daughter has quite sensitive fair skin so the fact that this has a gentle formulation for young skin really appeals to me. I am hoping that this product will live up to being non greasy and will rub in easily as there is nothing worse than sunscreen that goes on like glue and then makes you feel sticky and hot. I am hoping the roll on idea might be good for my son as something he can easily apply himself at school

  29. Geminichick123 15/12/2017 at 9:43 pm

I would love to trial these out as baby’s first day at the beach is coming… I cannot let his big brother miss out with the weather being so good for the beach lately!

  30. Jaxxy 15/12/2017 at 9:37 pm

I would love to trial this, as finding the perfect sunscreen is quite a mission, we have two kiddies in our family and due to this hot weather are requiring a lot of sunscreeen application, this allowing us to put Banana Boat to the test!! We also have babies in the extended family who would trial the baby block 😁 please pick us to review these products
