New My Food Bag research highlights the demand for more practical ways to eat well, as Fresh Start launches a new dietitian-approved Ready Made range.
My Food Bag is expanding its Ready Made offering with the launch of Fresh Start Ready Made, a new health-focused plan for people who want the convenience of a prepared meal with greater control over how they eat.
Customers can choose from 15 meals each week, including high-protein and calorie-controlled options, all dietitian-approved and ready to heat and eat in minutes.
The launch sits alongside My Food Bag’s existing Ready Made range, which offers a broader mix of comforting favourites and healthier options, giving customers more choice depending on how they want to eat.
Making healthy eating easier
The launch comes as My Food Bag research among 316 respondents highlights the gap between wanting to eat well and making it work consistently in everyday life.
Deciding what to cook was the most commonly cited mentally draining part of feeding yourself or a household, followed by planning meals ahead. Around 45% of respondents said they try to eat healthily but find it hard to stay consistent.
When asked what would make healthy eating easier, almost half wanted a simple, structured plan that removes the guesswork, while around 30% wanted help with food decisions.
Lily Henderson, My Food Bag Ingredients & Nutrition Manager and NZ Registered Dietitian, says the findings reflect the reality of trying to eat well when life is already busy. “Most people know what eating well looks like. The harder part is making it happen consistently when you also have to decide what to eat and then factor in the planning, shopping and cooking. Eating well doesn’t have to mean cooking from scratch every night. Having a convenient option on hand can make a big difference.”
Fresh Start Ready Made is designed to remove some of that work.
“It’s a really simple shortcut,” Henderson says. “You can choose meals that suit how you want to eat and know what you’re getting, without having to plan or prepare it yourself. But convenience is only part of it – the food still has to be something you genuinely want to eat.”

Convenience and quality
While convenience is at the heart of the range, Henderson says there has been just as much focus on the quality of the food and what goes into it. “There can be a perception that choosing a ready-made meal means compromising on quality, or that convenience means food that feels more processed. That’s something we’ve been very conscious of with this range. These are Fresh Start recipes, freshly prepared in New Zealand using quality ingredients you’d recognise from your own kitchen or pantry. We’ve done the cooking for you, but they’re still delicious, satisfying meals made with the same care we put into the rest of our food.”
That same approach extends across My Food Bag’s wider Ready Made range, with award-winning meals prepared in New Zealand and delivered fresh to customers – combining the convenience of having dinner taken care of with the quality and taste My Food Bag customers expect.
More ways to Fresh Start
The new Ready Made plan adds another way to eat with Fresh Start, particularly for people who want some of the work of healthy eating done for them.
For those who prefer to cook, Fresh Start offers 20+ healthy recipes each week, with the planning, portioning and nutritional thinking taken care of while customers still cook with fresh ingredients at home.

Customers wanting extra support can also join the free 8 Week Reset, designed to help build healthier habits through nutrition education and rewards along the way.
Fresh Start has also developed options for more specific health needs. Its GLP-1 Support range was developed with input from weight-management dietitians and trialled with patients and health professionals. It combines smaller portions, high protein and balanced nutrition across Ready Made and easy-to-cook recipes. Thousands of GLP-1 Support meals have been sold since launch.
“People come to Fresh Start for different reasons,” Henderson says. “For some it’s to help with weight management; for others it might be getting more protein or simply wanting to eat well more consistently. Some people love cooking but don’t want to think about what to make every night. Others want a healthy meal they can have ready in minutes. We want to make both easier.”
That desire for simplicity also came through strongly in the research, with around 60% of respondents saying there is too much focus on health trends and not enough on simple, everyday eating.
“There’s so much conflicting nutrition information coming at people from every direction. What came through for us is that people aren’t necessarily asking for more of it. They want healthy eating to feel simpler and more achievable in everyday life.”
Fresh Start Ready Made launches in September, with first deliveries from 27 September 2026.
