In the last month or so, as Christmas decor started to appear, we have noticed a wee trend emerging. That trend is llamas! The kids and I have been a little over excited about it. We love all things South American, and the fiesta colour-ways coming through as well. However, we weren’t really sure how to bring llamas into our Christmas.
We decided the best way to get Christmas llama-ed, would be to hand make the decorations. Based on the template, you can make a selection of llama decorations, from single hanging llamas, to banners and table settings.
You will need:
- Material – you can use coloured felt, craft card, or craft foam sheets
- Googly eyes
- Decorative pieces – sequins, stickers, pompoms, etc
- The llama template
- String or cord
- Craft glue
- A marker
- Scissors
Instructions for the fa-la-la-la-llama decorations
Cut the template shapes out. Overlay the template shapes onto the material you have selected to use. I did white foam sheets for my llamas and then orange and blue foam sheets for the llama’s blankets. Craft card or felt would work just as well. It really depends on the look you want for your decorations. I have a ready stash of crafting items, and so the foam was easily on hand for me. Though I love the look of felt, or a nice textured card would have been an excellent choice too.
Once I had enough llamas, I glued the blankets on. I added one eye onto the head of the llama. I also glued sequins along the edge of the blankets. This was fun, and my daughter enjoyed helping me find different patterns to try. Lastly I added pompoms on each llama’s feet.
When the llamas are dry, you can turn them over and glue a loop of cord to the back, so they can be hung from your tree. Or you could punch a hole in either side of the llama, and string the cord through a few to make a llama-tastic banner. There is also room on the blanket to write someone’s name. I’m going to be putting one on each person’s Christmas plate this year.
These llama decorations are super fun to make and kid friendly as well. My girls love sticking sequins to glue, but stickers are toddler friendly alternatives as well. We hope this brings a merry fa-la-la-la-llama magic to your house too.

I’m going to try the clay crafts that was on a previous article here during the christmas break before the big day arrives. I think its a great idea – we have never done anything christmasy like this before.
Too cute! Love the name too hehe. I haven’t actually made any decorations with my daughter but now I’m wanting too! She has made decorations for our tree at kindy and school before and we have kept them and put them on the tree every year 😁
I love these. My kids love Lamas and do easy to make.
Definitely first time to see Llama Christmas decorations but it’s timely coz we recently read a book called Llama Llama. I think they also have an animation series on Netflix. It must be trendy now.
Ah yes you could always change these up so they match the fortnight llama colours! That would thrill the kids as well.
I have never seen the llama Christmas decoration before now but my kids would love to make them and they seem easy enough to do. We love homemade decorations on the tree and the kids admire them every year we put it up.
Need these in our lives!!! My boys so I to llamas ever since Fortnite hahaa of all things! Then when this trend of Llamas for xmas emerged it was just a given I’d have little people saying Mum qe need Llama decorations ….so the hint began and what a mission…managed to find a couple on Ali Express but who knows if they’ll make it in time so this DIY instructions just awesome and deff keen to do with them.
Great instructions for making the cute wee llama decorations. Definitely might have to try this one with the kids before Christmas. Why not be different and add something new to the mix for Christmas. Hadn’t heard of llamas and Christmas coming together until now.
