Apple, pear and cinnamon puree

The two best fruit starters come together with a little bonus flavour: cinnamon. Try Gala, Fuji or Pink Lady apples and Nashi pears. If a pear is totally ripe it won’t need cooking at all. Both are great sources of fibre and vitamin C. Pears are especially good for constipated babies.

Ingredients

  • 1 apple

  • 1 pear

    ripe

  • 1 cup water

  • cinnamon

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan
  • 1 blender
  • 1 microwave-safe container

Instructions

  1. Peel, core and cut the apple into small pieces.
  2. Bring a cup of water to boil in a small saucepan and add the apple.
  3. Turn the heat down a little and cook until soft, around 10 minutes. Don’t let the water boil dry; add a little more if you need to.
  4. Meanwhile peel and deseed the pear.
  5. Puree the cooked apple and pear until smooth in a blender; add a little extra water if required.
  6. Sprinkle some cinnamon into the puree and stir to blend.

Notes

Tip
These two fruits make great mixers with other foods and also taste great together. By pureeing separately and freezing, you can use in other dishes or stir together to make this puree.
Variation
For a microwave method: Peel, core and cut the apple into small pieces. Place in a microwave-safe container with a little bit of water. Cover with cling wrap, leaving a corner free to allow steam to vent and cook on HIGH for a minute or until soft.
Storage
Can be frozen for up to six weeks.
