Introducing HEIHEI

HEIHEI is specially designed for kiwi children and has the goal of ‘Sparking Curious Kiwis’. It does this by bringing together a huge range of mostly local stories (plus a few hand-picked international shows) that have a positive impact on the lives of children.

HEIHEI is the result of a collaboration between TVNZ and NZ On Air and is designed to meet the needs of New Zealand families by offering a home where tamaraki can safely explore and consume quality, age and culturally appropriate content that contributes to the development of a positive identity, through curiosity, creativity and imagination.

It’s unapologetically Kiwi and it’s free to use. It’s also ad-free and there’s no in-app purchases. There’s no need for you to monitor the content as it’s all child-friendly and safe with no locked content.

What’s on it?

HEIHEI brings together a huge range of programmes and videos, games, audio and competitions that include gems such as ‘Kai Five’, where Kiwi kids make some easy kai with simple ingredients, and ‘Let’s Get Inventin’’, featuring amazing inventions created by Kiwi kids. Interactive games include ‘Gumboot Glory’ and ‘Māia the Brave’ while the audio section includes songs and stories. There are also links to a number of fantastic local apps.

Who knows what kids love the most? The kids themselves! So kids just like yours have been involved in developing HEIHEI, and its content has been designed to reflect the range of cultures, beliefs, genders, abilities and ethnicities that makes growing up in New Zealand so special.
