Decorating a kids room has to be one of the most fun DIY projects, especially when you can upstyle existing items into something new and funky with minimal cost.
So as a nod to upstyling we’ve gathered 11 (cos 10 is so last week!) of our favourite DIY projects that your child can create, with a bit of supervision, to proudly say, “I made that!”.
Trendy storage projects
#1 Transform an old school desk
These old school desks were made to last! Get your hands on one and give it an update for the ideal homework spot with storage.

Make a private hideout for your hard-earned treasure with this easy project. For a bigger version, reuse an old shoe box.
#3 Display with razzle dazzle
Turn a boring old mug stand into a sparkly display for medals, jewellery, or hairties with the use of metallic paint.

#4 Reuse old animal figurines for trendy storage
Gather up the plastic animals from the bottom of the toy box and repurpose them as on-trend styling for handy jars and bookends.

Pretty and practical
#5 Make your own blackboard
With blackboard paint it’s easy to transform a wooden picture frame into a memo board that’s useful for reminders, drawing, or practising your ABCs.

#6 Create a buzz!
Upcycle a tin can to create this cool ‘bumble bee’ pot that you can use for plants, pencils, or … well … anything! There’s a cute ladybird version too.

#7 Flower power
So simple to make, but so effective – these flower magnets also make an inexpensive gift idea. Keep those precious photos and helpful notes pinned to a magnetic whiteboard.
#8 Update lighting for a tween bedroom
Older kids will LOVE creating this bedside lamp with added bling!

#9 Create a noteboard
Bring a plain corkboad to life by adding ribbon and stick-on embellishments. We’ve gone with a garden style but you can get creative with undersea, jungle, or zoo themes.

#10 Kids kitchen
Give an old bedside table a makeover using this project idea and let the fun begin! Imagine being the kid who helped to create their own kitchen!

#11 Shoebox dollhouse
The kids will love making a shoebox dollhouse, decorating and furnishing it – then the play continues! Dolls, action figures and LEGO characters will all feel right at home.
