Thank a Teacher: Make a difference for Kiwi kids by showing your appreciation for our everyday heroes

How do we make those amazing teachers feel as valued as they make our kids feel? We celebrate them with Thank A Teacher.

It could be a name that regularly pops up at the dinner table. It could be the person who never fails to put a smile on your child’s face. It could be someone who is the first to let you know how your child is doing, what they’re achieving, and what they need help with. Sometimes, there’s just that special someone who really gives it their all when it comes to making your children feel that extra bit special. It’s time to celebrate our everyday heroes: Teachers.

What makes a good teacher?

It’s a simple question with so many different answers. It could be their empathy, commitment to supporting your children’s growth, clear communication, or their ability to make your child feel safe in their learning environment. It could be all of these things!

Teachers are the people who guide us, who instruct, and who train us to achieve new skills, acquire knowledge and develop values. However, as parents, we know there’s more to it when we hear our children come home with wonderful stories of fun and learning; we see it when they show us their newfound skills, or when they achieve amazing milestones with hard work and practice; we feel it when our children are happy and fulfilled.

So, how do we make those amazing teachers feel as valued as they make our kids feel? We celebrate them with Thank A Teacher.

What is Thank a Teacher?

Logo reads: Thank a teacher, and help a Kiwi kid.

From Monday, October 5th to Sunday, November 1st, Warehouse Stationery and The Salvation Army have teamed up with campaign ambassador, primary school teacher, and TikTok creator Samantha Richards to help spread kindness across New Zealand.

Kicking off on World Teachers’ Day, parents and children can create a free personalised card online or in-store at Warehouse Stationery to thank a teacher who has made a difference. Customise it with your own images and message, get the kids involved, and make something personal for that special teacher in their life.

Support Kiwi kids

But spreading the kindness doesn’t end with creating your own custom card. For every card created for Thank a Teacher, Warehouse Stationery will donate $2 for each card made, up to $50,000, to The Salvation Army to help provide essential support to Kiwi kids experiencing hardships.

Campaign ambassador Samantha Richards shares that the appeal is all about “bringing together schools, families, communities and Warehouse Stationery teams to help tackle inequality in the classroom.”

“Classroom inequality can be hard to see, but teachers are often the first to notice it.”

With one in seven Kiwi children experiencing material hardship, not every child has access to the school essentials they need to take part, feel included and thrive in the classroom. So, when you thank a teacher, that small act of kindness goes a little further, helping support another Kiwi kid along the way.

Show your favourite teacher your gratitude this October by heading into your local Warehouse Stationery or click the link below to start making your card today! Get the kids together, create your own heartfelt message, add your own photos, and spread kindness all around with Thank a Teacher.
