Yo-yo flowers

Get creative this Valentine’s Day with these cute yo-yo flowers. They’re the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for kids to make – they’re simple to make, and will keep the kids occupied for hours! A lovely surprise for that special someone.

What you need:

  • cotton fabric
  • cardboard
  • scissors
  • needle
  • thread

Number of players:
1+

Activity:

Cut a circle template that is 15cm wide out of the cardboard.

Use the cardboard template as a guide to cut a circle out of the fabric.

Lay the cut-out fabric on the table with the wrong side facing up.

Thread the needle and tie a knot in the end. The thread should be at least 30cm long.

Roll the edge of the fabric circle with your fingers to create a 3mm fold and start a running stitch through the roll.

Allow some room between your stitches, perhaps 2- 3mm apart.

Once finished, gently pull the needle and thread to start gathering the fabric on the thread – as you pull the thread, the outer edge of the fabric circle is pulled into the centre.

Close the circle by pulling the thread as tightly as possible and tie a knot to secure it..

Flatten the fabric circle.

Clip off the remaining thread and admire your fabulous yo-yo flower!
