Banana splits

Pretend dessert can be healthy with this recipe for banana splits! Topped with chocolate topping, marshmallows, smarties and nuts the whole family will be begging you to make these again.

Banana splits

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 bananas, sliced
  • Neapolitan ice cream
  • Chocolate topping
  • 16 marshmallows
  • 8 smarties or M&Ms
  • Nuts (optional)

Method

For each serve, place a scoop of each of your favourite Neapolitan flavours in a bowl.

Arrange banana slices around ice cream.

Cut marshmallows in half and use four halves to make each flower (2 per serve).

Use a smartie to make the centre of the flower.

Smother with topping and nuts (optional).

Notes

  • I slice the bananas cross-ways; it is too frustrating trying to cut long strips of banana with a spoon!
  • I also made a version in a glass, banana split towers. Use a layer of each flavour ice cream, with banana slices and marshmallows in between. Work quickly!
  • For adults, use your favourite good-quality ice cream and a chocolate liqueur sauce — keep the marshmallow flowers!
