What is a worry box?
A Worry Box is something you and your child can make together, a place for big feelings to go until it’s time to talk. Share your creation to be in to win $200 of BraveFace.
How does a worry box help?
“Mum, I can’t stop thinking about it … If your child gets stuck in a cycle of worries, a Worry Box can be a wonderful way to help.
The idea is simple: instead of carrying every worry around all day, children write or draw what’s on their mind, fold it up, and place it in their special Worry Box. It gives those big feelings somewhere to go until it’s time to talk about them together.

It’s not about ignoring worries; it’s about helping kids feel more in control and showing them that worries don’t have to take over their day.
Kids don’t always have the words to explain that a worry is taking up space in their head. A Worry Box gives that feeling somewhere physical to go, instead of it sitting in their body all day and showing up as tummy aches, meltdowns or trouble sleeping.
It also offers a low-pressure way to check in; no need to ask “what’s wrong” and get a shrug back. And it teaches kids early that big feelings are normal and manageable, not something to hide or push down.
How to make a Worry Box:
- Find a small box, jar or container.
- Let your child decorate it with paint, stickers, markers or anything they love.
- Add a fun label like “My Worry Box” or “Feed Me Your Worries!”
- Keep paper and pencils nearby so they can write or draw their worries whenever they need to.
- Set aside a calm time each day or week to open the box together, talk through the worries, and decide which ones you can solve and which ones it’s okay to let go.
- It’s a simple craft that opens the door to some really important conversations – and gives children a healthy way to express big emotions.
- Have you ever tried a Worry Box with your child? We’d love to hear how it worked for your family.
You’ll need:
- A small box, jar or container – an empty tissue box is ideal
- Paper
- Pens, pencils or crayons
- Decorations (optional): stickers, coloured paper, paint or markers
Instructions

- Prep your box: Make it your own! We recommend beginning by removing the plastic film from the tissue box. This will create a space for you to pop your worries into the box.
- Decorate your box: Make it your own! Add colours, drawings, stickers or a label such as “My Worry Box.“
- Write or draw your worry: Whenever something is bothering you, write it down or draw a picture of it on a small piece of paper.

- Fold it up: Fold the paper and place it inside the Worry Box
- Let the worry rest: Once it’s in the box, remind yourself that you don’t need to carry that worry around all day.
- Talk about it later: Choose a calm time to open the box with a trusted adult. Read each worry together, talk about possible solutions, and decide which worries you can let go of
Remember: It’s okay to have worries. Sharing them can make them feel much smaller.
