Traditional lemonade

The recipe is easy to make, and a great excuse to teach kids what traditional lemonade tastes like. So much better than store bought!

Ingredients

  • 300g sugar

  • 6 lemons

  • 3 cups water

    (750mL)

  • Soda water

    to serve

Equipment

  • 1 jug
  • 1 glass mixing bowl
  • 1 plastic wrap
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 glass bottle

Instructions

  1. Peel lemon rind into strips. Squeeze juice from lemons into a jug, cover and store in the fridge.
  2. Place the sugar in a glass mixing bowl, stir in the lemon rind, cover with plastic wrap and leave overnight.
  3. Add 3 cups of boiling water to the sugar and rind mixture, stir until the sugar has dissolved, and then add the reserved lemon juice.
  4. Strain the syrup into a glass bottle, allow it to cool, and then store in the fridge.
  5. To serve, pour a small amount of syrup into a glass (less than you would use to make up cordial) and fill the glass with soda water. Adjust to suit your sweet tooth.
