Children can join their local Surf Life Saving Club program from 7 years of age and participate in their Junior Surf programme.  At 12 years children can attain their Surf Life Saving Certificate.

Rules of the game:

There are five achievement levels within the Junior Surf programme – from Level One where they gain confidence in the water and learn basic theory about keeping safe at the beach, through to learning to body surf, duck dive, how to survivein rips right through to skill development for surf swimming.

The program is suitable for children who enjoy the beach and have sound water skills. The program is a great way for children to learn about the beach and become aware of important safety issues.

Each of the 71 clubs in New Zealand operates their own Junior Surf programme. Children must not have any medical condition that will be affected by spending substantial time in the water.

Sign up dates:

Children can sign up at their local surf lifesaving club at any time throughout the year. Typically the program runs from October to March and is held on a Sunday morning. Contact your local surf lifesaving club for further registration details.
