Shrunken apple heads

Shrunken apple heads

Halloween means it is time to make some spooky, scary arts and crafts and this project is right on target for some creeptastic fun. Your kids will enjoy making these pencil toppers and can even use them as decoration for their school rooms or desks!

What you need:

  • A small apple (ripe or unripe)
  • A paring knife
  • Two cloves
  • A pencil

Number of players:
1+

Activity:

Peel the skin off the apple, but leave the stem on. Parents can help with this step as it can get tricky.

Cut out three triangles on one side – two for the eyes and one for the nose.

Push a clove into each of the eye sockets.

Carve a line for the mouth that is large enough for the kids to squeeze in a few grains of rice for teeth.

Push in the dull end of a pencil into the bottom of the apple.

Once in place, put the apple in a warm dry place like the kitchen window or in a cupboard.

Rotate it once a day so it doesn't rot.

Leave for at least two weeks to completely dry and voila! You have a spooky, scary, creeptastic creation all of your own.
