Cooking games with kids: Tricky tastes

Cooking games with kids: Tricky tastes

Getting kids to try anything new is sometimes a challenge in itself but when you turn it into a game and add the element of suprise, it's not only fun, it's sometimes hilarious! Give it a go.

What you need:

  • 8 small bowls
  • blindfold
  • 2 salty foods
  • 2 sweet foods
  • 2 bitter foods
  • 2 sour foods
  • a glass of water

Number of players:

Activity:

A lot like Tricky textures, this game relies on the kids senses to guess the foods. Either from the list below or om your pantry, choose two foods from each category:

  • Salty
  • Sweet
  • Bitter
  • Sour

Pop them into the bowls but don't let the kids know what's going in there.

Put the blindfold on to the child and have them taste each food. Using only their tastebuds, see if they can describe the food. Is it sweet or salty? Is it grainy or smooth? What is it? Rinse with water inbetween to make sure they're ready for the next taste.

Enjoy the food and have a treat at the end. You never know, they might find something new that they like!

Notes:
Here are a few food examples to try.

  • Salty: pretzels and original potato chips
  • Sweet: cookies and white grapes
  • Bitter:  baking chocolate, kale
  • Sour: lemon and grapefruit
