Parents have spent years telling their children that lollipops aren’t good for their teeth.

Now, Kiwi oral-care brand Trio Teeth is turning that idea on its head with the launch of Wolly Pops – a xylitol-based lollipop designed with oral care in mind. Rather than asking children to brush, floss or rinse, Wolly Pops take a different approach by engaging children in a fun aspect of their oral care.

“We wanted to create something that children would genuinely get excited about, rather than another product parents have to convince them to use,” says Emma Hawke, founder of Trio Teeth.

“Kids love lollipops. Parents care about their teeth. We thought, why can’t we create something that brings those two worlds together?”

A lollipop with a purpose

Wolly Pops are made with xylitol, a sweetener widely used in oral-care products, rather than traditional sugar. The result is a colourful, fun lollipop designed with oral health in mind. The product taps into the growing global interest in functional confectionery – products that combine the enjoyment of confectionery with an additional purpose.

For Trio Teeth, the idea was simple: If children already want the lollipop, why not rethink what the lollipop can be?

From toothbrushes to lollipops

Wolly Pops are the latest innovation from Trio Teeth, the New Zealand oral-care brand behind its distinctive three-sided toothbrushes. The brand was created with a simple mission: to make oral care easier and more enjoyable for families. Wolly Pops take that philosophy beyond the bathroom sink.

“Oral care doesn’t have to be boring,” says Emma Hawke.

“We’ve always believed there is an opportunity to make looking after your teeth easier and more enjoyable for families. Wolly Pops are the next step in that.”

The new product joins Trio Teeth’s growing range of children’s, teen and adult toothbrushes and is launching through the brand’s growing New Zealand retail and wholesale network.

Rethinking the humble lollipop

For generations, lollipops have been seen simply as a sugary treat. Trio Teeth wants to challenge that thinking.

Wolly Pops are part of a new generation of products that blur the line between everyday treats and functional products – creating something that children enjoy while giving parents another way to think about oral care. And for a brand built around making oral care more fun, a lollipop felt like the perfect next step.

Wolly Pops are now available in New Zealand in packs of eight.
