Old fashioned art: Craft a quill pen
If your kids have ever looked at the old fashioned pens and wondered how they worked, here is the perfect activity to give them an idea without the expense of buying a real one. Make your own quill pen that really works.
What you need:
- a few strips of paper
- thick cardstock paper
- paint
- water
- a toothbrush
- bamboo skewers
- scissors
- tape

Step 1. Gather your supplies.
Step 2. Placing the strips of paper on the cardstock, take your toothbrush dipped in paint and brush in downward, angled strokes. The strips of paper are there to help create the perfect edge.
Step 3. Once you have the painted feathers looking like this step, leave to dry.
Step 4. Cut out the feathers and tape the bamboo skewers onto the back. To make it even more effective, snip the feathers on the same downward angle as the strokes of paint.
Step 5. Lay your feathers out and water down some paint. This makes it easier to dip and spread.
Step 6. Time to get creative!
