Make your own tree stump pencil holder

Make your own tree stump pencil holder

There is nothing like adding a bit of nature to your life. Add just a touch more to the kids desk – they will love it! A tree stump pencil holder will act also as a paper weight and it is a great novelty for keeping loose pencils out of the way.

What you need:

  • skinny tree stump or really thick branch
  • chain saw or hand saw
  • sand paper
  • electric drill with speedball or drill bit slightly wider than a pencil circumference
  • sticky-backed felt
  • scissors

Activity:

Step 1. Cut/chop the stump or branch to your desired size.

Step 2. Sand the ends to get rid of any rough edges or sharp splinters.

Step 3. Drill randomly into the wood about a third to a half of the depth of a pencil (remember they get shorter as you sharpen them!).

Step 4. Cut a round of sticky felt and stick on the base.
