Pool games for baby: Teddy bear

Teddy bear, Teddy bear is not only a nursery rhyme favourite amongst kids, but is a fun way to say goodbye to the water for this session. You may find your child does not like the water at first, but once you get in, they won’t want to get out. This little tune makes parting easier.

What you need:

  • shallow pool, waist deep for mum or dad is fine
  • supervising adult


Number of players:


Hold your child around the waist facing away from you.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, turn around”.

As you sing, turn yourself and baby around in the water.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, splash the ground.”

Splash yours and baby’s hands in the water.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, tickle your tummy. ”

Tickle baby’s tummy under the water.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, cuddle your daddy or mummy.”

Cuddle your baby.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, jump up high.”

Lift your child as high as comfortable out of the water.

Sing: “Teddy bear, Teddy bear, wave goodbye.”

Wave to other participants, or the pool to make it easier to leave the water.
