Make a cute cat costume

Dress up games and Halloween ideas don’t have to be difficult or expensive. Try making this easy cat costume for your little kitten.

What you need:

  • 1 pair of homemade cat’s ears
  • 1 strip (75cm x 10cm) black polar fleece (or any black fabric)
  • hot glue gun or a needle and thread or a sewing machine
  • a black pen or black facepaints
  • black leggings or stockings
  • black leotard or a black top
  • scissors
  • a pencil

Activity:

Start by making some cat’s ears. You’ll find the instructions and free printable template on this page here.

When you’re finished the cat’s ears, start on the cat’s tail. Kids are fascinated by tails, so don’t assume you can skip this bit!

To make a cat’s tail fold your strip of polar fleece in half lengthways, with the right sides together. Cut a rounded tip to the end of the tail.

Now glue or sew the edges together – all around but leave the top end open so you can turn it right side out when you’re done. You could use a sewing machine for this bit if you are lucky enough to have one.

Now turn the tail right side out. Stuff it with cotton wool so it looks like a real cat’s tail.

Use a safety pin to attach it. Or if you have a black bathrobe or dressing gown belt, pin the tail to that and then tie around waist.

Now all you need are the ears, some black clothes and some face paint.

Paint a black nose and whiskers on your child’s face.
