The McCaws welcome a baby girl

All Black legend, man mountain, and all-round good guy, Richie McCaw, has become a dad with the arrival of a baby daughter. Richie and wife, Gemma, who also boasts plenty of sporting prowess as a former Black Stick hockey player, announced the birth of their first child, Charlotte Rose McCaw on Instagram today with an adorable photo of the proud parents and their baby girl.

In early November, Gemma and Richie took some private time away from the spotlight for a chance to unplug and reconnect at the jaw-droppingly beautiful Birds Eye View Lodge in South Canterbury.

Last weekend was the perfect chance to unplug from everyday life and reconnect with what matters. It was beautiful being up at the Birds Eye View lodge, there was no power, fire & gas for heating and cooking and the bathroom facilities included an outdoor bath (amazing under the stars) and a long drop (which makes you appreciate a normal bathroom especially whilst pregnant) 😂 I would highly recommend finding some time to take a break away and disconnect from the fast paced world we live in. Solitude is harder to find these days but it helps ground us, gives us time to reflect and also to remember what is truly important🙏 #birdseyeview #lodge #nz #nature

New babies are very exciting! I did think it was weird though that the media was trying to add pressure that she be this sporting great because of her parentage. She’ll be whoever she ends up being.

Richie has always been my favourite rugby player of all time so it is great to see he is happy with his new wife welcoming their little girl into the world 🙂

Very exciting times for this new family… a child is ana amazing gift and a very full on job but by the looks and sounds of it… baby girl should be great…. love her name and her parents zeal for life.. congrats to them both!! God bless
