Pirate costume: make a pirate eyepatch

You don’t need a sewing machine to make a simple eye-patch for a pirate costume. Follow our video tutorial below to help your child look his swashbuckling best – complete with an authentic pirate eye-patch.

    What you need:

    • Small piece of black cardboard
    • Small piece of black felt, leather, suede or fleece
    • 20cm piece of black hat elastic
    • Craft glue
    • Scissors
    • A pencil

    Activity:

Watch the below video to see how to make a no sew eye-patch for a pirate costume.

Start by drawing a rough pirate patch shape onto your cardboard. A pirate patch is usually a semi-circular shape with rounded edges (see video for pirate patch shape).

Cut it out. Use a stapler to attach the elastic to the patch.

Now add a layer of felt, leather, suede or fleece to your patch. Just stick the cardboard patch to a small piece of material and then trim around the edges (see video).
