Apple and worm cupcakes

These cute little apple and worm cupcakes are great for birthdays or picnics. The kids will love their rosy apple colour and the cheeky worm poking out!

Ingredients

  • 1 basic cupcakes

    Use a pre-made recipe or packet mix.

  • 1 buttercream icing

    Use a pre-made recipe or from a packet mix.

  • red food colouring

  • 1 plastic straw

    For making a hole for the worm.

  • pretzels

    For the apple stalks.

  • Gummi Worms

  • mint leaf lollies

  • 1 plastic straw

Instructions

  1. Make up the vanilla cupcakes as per the recipe.
  2. Bake as directed.
  3. Make your buttercream icing and add a few drops of colouring at a time until you have a rosy, apple red colour. Spread buttercream icing on cooled cupcakes.
  4. Push a piece of broken pretzel into the cupcake to resemble a stalk. Push the plastic straw in to make a hole and poke one end of the Gummi Worm inside so it looks like it is emerging from the apple. Add a mint leaf either side of the pretzel to create leaves.

Notes

Tip
If you want to make these cupcakes but need a quick shortcut then you can use a packet mix of vanilla cupcakes with icing included and then tint the included icing.
Variation
If red apples aren’t your favourite you can use green food colouring to make green apples.
