Have fun in the summer sun with Banana Boat
Kiwis are very aware of the harmful effects of the sun but recent research* shows that we aren’t that great at keeping up with our sun smart routines. Do you remember to reapply sunscreen after two hours in the sun? Or after swimming? The research revealed that in the past 12 months 35% of Kiwi kids have been sunburnt and parents admitted that forgetting or finding it too time consuming was their main reasons for not applying or reapplying sunscreen to their kids.
How much? As a guide, each application requires 7 teaspoons of product – 1 per limb, 1 for your front, 1 for your back and one for your face, neck and ears
How often? Reapply at least every two hours or more often after swimming, sweating or towelling off – make it simple for yourself by setting a timer on your phone
“Reapplying sunscreen at the right time is really important, but less than a third of Kiwis are reapplying every two hours according to the research, putting families at risk of sun damage. It’s also very important to remember to reapply after swimming, perspiring or towelling off.” (Associate Professor Rosemary Nixon, Consultant Dermatologist).

We love summer and love the sun, but my daughter is a bit apprehensive toward sunblock. She does however love the roll on block (she thinks it’s like mummy’s deodorant) so we would love to be part of this trial. Luckily both of my kids love wearing hats (wife brim) so that (with sun block) is how we keep them safe in the sun ☺️
Would livw to try this for miss 6 especially with the hot weather we have been having in Christchurch. We always wear a hat sunglasses use Sun block and try and stay in the shade on these hot days
I would really love to trial these sunscreens for our family of 4! As parents we are alway struggling to find a sunscreen that can go the distance with our ever increasing sun exposure!! We apply regularly, but I’m always so anxious about spending so much $$ on a cream that may not work. I’d love to trial these products to see if Banana Boat can go the distance!
Living in Nelson we always wear sunblock and re-appy though out the day. We have two decks at home, one that provides shade in the morning and the other in the afternoons. When at the beach we always take our sun umbrella and sand screw to ensure it doesn’t blow away. This holiday season we will be celebration in Australia so we will be wearing light long sleeves when outdoors and when swimming long sleeved rash suits. At all times we wear hats and sunglasses, even when the sun is out in the winter! Thank goodness for sunblock though, its a lifesaver!
Would love to trial this for my two children, we are frequently in the sun at the beach and I’m very cautious about sun safety due to family history with melanoma.
I would love to trial this for our family of 5 boys! I have really been looking for a good baby sunscreen as well for our 17-month-old twins and the baby roll on looks amazing (roll ons are soooo easy for preschoolers I bet they are with babies as well!) The Dry Balance looks like an interesting product too, my boys spend so much time in the sun and outside in water, what I hate is that they always have to have a bath afterwards (after spending hours in water!) because theyre all greasy from the sunscreen so this would be really interesting to try and give feedbak on! Thanks 🙂
Hi I would love to trial these for my children ,I keep them safe with a hat but also they have been trained from a very young age to also apply sunscreen in the morning, lunch and mid-afternoon. I have seen these sunscreens in the shelves, and I would love to trial them before purchasing them. Thanks
Hi, we would love to try this sunscreen. How we keep sunsafe? Sunscreen but also wetsuits in the water, hats with wide brims and hats with neck flaps for my son. This would be a good review that I could share on my blog which is all about getting kids outside. Nice to be able to recommend a good sunblock.
I think it makes it easy to teach how to be SunSmart by using their guidelines of ‘Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap’. Slipping into the shade, slipping on a long sleeve top, Slop on sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside, Slap on a hat & wrap on your sunglasses. Simple, easy way to be safe. 🙂 Yes please.
Every year we go camping in the new year and spend a lot of time over Christmas at the beach! We keep our family sun safe with loads of sunscreen, hats, sunnies and we just brought a sun shelter for this summer!
Would love to trial these. My kids are all very fair children so get burnt easily. Would love a product that isn’t greasy. Hate the feel of it and the residue it leaves on clothing etc.
Make my summer easier please!
I would love to be included in this trial. Sun safety is very important in our family and I love learning about different types of sunblock
This would be great to trial – we apply sunscreen wvery morning to our son before he goes to school – we haven’t tried these Banana Bot products – they would be great to trail! Thank you!
“Ahhhhh it’s in my eyes (yells). it stings (screams) , YUCK iIt’s sticky (runs to bathroom to try to wipe sunscreen off)”. Welcome to Groundhog Day – the summertime months! We would love to trial Banana Boat Dry Balance Lotion SPF 50+ purely for its dry, matte finish, leaving skin feeling fresh and able tto breathe. Added bonus of 50+ for NZs intense burn times and sting free for eyes and we will finally have the summer sunscreen battle sorted around the pool and beach this summer!
We try and do the slip slip slap everyday. It’s a mission! I would love the kids to try a roll on, they might then take it too school and reapply at lunch time!
I will be keeping my family sun smart safe with the good old slip slop smuthered routine and for us to all keep hydrated in that great summer were about to have!
We try to cover up. We try to limit full sun exposure during intense heat times. Regularly apply sunblock. Would love to have the chance to trial this
I try to keep my family sun safe by ensuring that they stay covered when out side in the warm weather and applying sun screen on any exposed skin
Slip slop slap wrap
Slip on a tshirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat and wrap on some sunnies 😀
And stay in the shade in the middle of the day
We avoid the sun in the middle of the day, we apply high factor sunscreen before going out, or in the shade and wait 30mins before going in water or the sun. Shudders , heads cover with cloths, and sunglasses for our eyes.
Sunhats, sunscreen and plenty of fluids to keep hydrated in the sun. Always have a drink bottle and sunscreen with you when ever your going to be outside.
We always wear a hat when we go outside and if we forget my 2 year old son will soon let us know and set us straight. Also, we apply sunscreen every morning for the beautiful day ahead.
With four children who are active and out in the sun we use a lot of sunscreen. I want a product that is easy to apply and EFFECTIVE.
I find regular reapplication of sunscreen is essential, especially when they are in the water plus covering up and using hats and sunglasses.
I keep my family sun safe by making them wear a hat and a sleeved t-shirt when we go out along with a good sunscreen. I also encourage them to play in the shade to make sure they don’t get burnt! These sunscreens would help with the morning sunscreen routine I do to prepare my kids for kindy and school!
I would love to give this a try! I absolutely hate the greasiness of sunscreens and I must admit it puts me off using them. My 7yo daughter is the same, she can’t stand having it on.
For sun protection I slather on as much sunscreen as she will allow me to (which is not much) and sunnies, hats and sleeves of course.
My family would love to be selected to trial this. We are always in the sun and finding a sunscreen good for my son is getting tricky. Would love to see how this works for us all. We use hats, cool protective clothing, sunglasses and plenty of shade. Keeping my kids aware of the dangers of nz sun is very important to me and now important to them.
Lots of sunscreen, t-shirts hats and sunglasses…and I educate them of the dangers of getting sunburnt!
I would dearly love to try these. My son is an octopus when it comes time to put on sunscreen, arms and legs flailing about to stop its application. A roll-on could be just the answer we need. The dry product sounds great too, no more stickiness?? Count me in.
I make sure my little ones have their sun hats on a tshirt and sunscreen on
We would appreciate the opportunity to trial this product as we enter Summer. Our youngest will be experiencing his first ever summer and we’ll take all the help we can get to keep him sun-safe!
To stay sun-safe, use sunscreen, put on sunnies and sunhats, stay in good shade frequently, and stay well hydrated! It’s all well and good putting protection from sunburn, but too many people forget about good hydration to stay healthy and avoid dehydration.
