Easy costume: Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes
If you are stuck for Book Week ideas, this Thing 1 and Thing 2 costume is one of the easiest dress up costumes for kids. You'll be inspired to read The Cat In The Hat by Dr Seuss all over again once you've finished making these no-sew costumes.
What you need:
For each Thing you need:
- 1 x red T-shirt (or red babygro for a baby)
- 1 x beanie
- 1 x blue feather boa (available at the $2 shops)
- 1 x large sheet of white paper
- A black marker pen
- A hot glue gun
Number of players:
2
Activity:
To make the blue wig, stick the blue feather boa to the beanie.
Wind the feather boa around the beanie from the top to the bottom, using a hot glue gun to stick it in place.
To make the T-shirt, draw a big circle on the sheet of paper and write "Thing 1" or "Thing 2" in big black letters. Flick through the book, The Cat In The Hat if you want to match the lettering from the drawings in the book.
Cut out the circle. Stick it onto your red T-shirt with a hot glue gun.
Leave to dry, and then dress your kids in their matching Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes.
Hints and tips:
If you are too time-poor to make the wig you could just buy a blue wig from a party shop OR if you are feeling really wild – use blue hair paint to spray your child's hair blue. Easiest fancy dress ever!
