Make a woolly polar bear
This cute little winter craft is a great way to upcycle empty toilet rolls and keep little hands busy on a chilly winter's day inside.
What you need:
- 1 x empty toilet roll
- 1 x A4 piece of felt
- 1 x ball of white wool
- 2 x googly craft eyes
- 1 x 5cm Styrofoam ball
- fast-drying craft glue
- scissors
- pencil
Number of players:
Activity:
Trim the toilet roll by cutting about 3cm off the bottom.
Glue the Styrofoam ball to one end of the toilet roll.
Now you need to make some bits out of felt:
- 2 x arms
- 2 x feet
- 1 x nose (circle)
- 2 x ears
Cut these out.
Next you need to wind the white wool all around the body and head of your polar bear. First, paint a section with glue and start winding the wool around the body. It doesn't need to be neat and you can go back and overlap if there are gaps.
Once you've done that, glue his arms, feet, nose, eyes and ears on.
What other animals could you make this way?
Hints and tips:
- If you don't have a Styrofoam ball on hand and want to improvise, you could make a pom pom out of your white wool and use it as the polar bear's head. Go here for pom pom instructions and templates.
