All you need is a few basic materials to construct this fun magnetic fishing line that is also a game. Kids will love pretending to ‘fish’ when they have finished crafting.
What you need:
- chopstick, pencil, or stick
- ribbon
- tape and/or glue
- scissors
- string
- small magnets
- pencil
- coloured paper
- large paper clips
Fishing game:
Wrap the ribbon around the chopstick or stick and tape or glue it in place to create your “fishing rod”.
Tie one end of the string on to the fishing rod.
Tie the other end of the string on to a large paper clip.
Using your pencil, draw some fish on the coloured paper and cut them out.
Draw on some fins, scales and eyes (or stick on googly eyes).
Glue the small magnets to the fish.
Now your child can go ‘fishing’ by holding their fishing rod and dangling the line over the magnetised fish. The paper clip will attract the magnet, “catching” the fish.
Notes:
- Make sure the magnets are not too large as they may be too heavy for the paper clip.
- For older children, draw numbers on the fish, then take turns to catch a fish and add up the numbers for your score.
