Origami heart

Origami heart

Origami is a fantastic way to develop your child's fine motor skills. This paper heart is a simple origami trick, just follow the instructions below or watch the video.

What you need:

  • One A4 sheet of paper

Number of players:

Lay the paper lengthways on the table. Fold it in half.

Open out again and fold it upwards, (in half the other way) Open it out again. These original fold marks will provide a guide for the rest of the folds.

With the paper lying lengthways across the table, make a diagonal fold upwards, leaving about 3cm on one side and overhanging 3cm on the other. It will look like two triangles roughly overlapping.

The original folds you made across the piece of paper will now be your guide. Fold the bottom edge up along the original fold, so that the top pointy edges match.

Do the same on the other side.

It will now look like a diamond with a cleft in the top.

Fold the two side pointed corners in to flatten the edge and make more of a heart shape.

Now there will still be two points on the top. Each point will have two layers.  Fold each point inward, to make a flat top, with the folded parts concealed on the inside of the folding.

You’ve made an origami heart. Still not sure? Watch and follow as eight-year-old Alex makes one below.
