Golden syrup slice

This sweet slice recipe doesn't need any baking and uses pantry ingredients which makes it a double winner in our eyes! Make it for a school cake sale or as a weekend treat for the kids

Ingredients

  • 1 plain biscuits

    Marie biscuits are mentioned in the method

  • 2 tbsp golden syrup

  • 1 400g can condensed milk

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • 80g unsalted butter

    melted

  • 125g milk or dark chocolate

Equipment

  • 1 16cm x 26cm slice tray
  • 1 non-stick baking paper
  • 1 food processor
  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 metal spoon
  • 1 microwave

Instructions

  1. Grease a 16cm x 26cm slice tray and line with non-stick baking paper.
  2. Place Marie biscuits in a food processor and whiz to crumbs.
  3. Melt the butter with the golden syrup and vanilla.
  4. Place the biscuit crumbs, butter mixture and condensed milk in a large bowl, stir well to combine.
  5. Transfer mixture to the prepared tray and press down with the back of a metal spoon.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  7. Melt chocolate in microwave on medium-high for 1 minute. Stir and repeat until melted.
  8. Spread melted chocolate over the top of the slice.
  9. When the chocolate is set, cut into small squares.

Notes

Tip
Refrigerate the base overnight, then the cold base helps set the chocolate quickly. All the quicker for eating!
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
