Have fun in the summer sun with Banana Boat
Kiwis are very aware of the harmful effects of the sun but recent research* shows that we aren’t that great at keeping up with our sun smart routines. Do you remember to reapply sunscreen after two hours in the sun? Or after swimming? The research revealed that in the past 12 months 35% of Kiwi kids have been sunburnt and parents admitted that forgetting or finding it too time consuming was their main reasons for not applying or reapplying sunscreen to their kids.
How much? As a guide, each application requires 7 teaspoons of product – 1 per limb, 1 for your front, 1 for your back and one for your face, neck and ears
How often? Reapply at least every two hours or more often after swimming, sweating or towelling off – make it simple for yourself by setting a timer on your phone
“Reapplying sunscreen at the right time is really important, but less than a third of Kiwis are reapplying every two hours according to the research, putting families at risk of sun damage. It’s also very important to remember to reapply after swimming, perspiring or towelling off.” (Associate Professor Rosemary Nixon, Consultant Dermatologist).

We try to instill in our children the need to wear hats and apply sunscreen when out in the sun especially during the middle of the day. However, the message doesn’t seem to be getting through as my 11 year old son got badly sunburnt last week during a school trip dispite having a hat and sunscreen! Hopefully he has learnt his lesson. However, I suspect the sunscreen we have may be out of date so would love to try this one as the dry, non greasy feel appeals to me as well as the high SPF and we really need to get more so would love to trial this brand.
Slip, slop, slap! In this heat, I keep my wee one (who is 1 in a week!) out of the sun during the hottest times of the day. We then use lots of sunscreen, reapplied as needed, a hat and long sleeves if possible. I would love to try this product as I have heard good things about it, and am really careful when choosing lotions for our son’s skin, as our family all have sensitive skin.
I’ve had Banana Boat sunscreen recommended to us and with 4 kids need to consider upgrading from HomeBrand so would love to try it.
We keep sun safe by the good old Slip Slop Slap. Kids are always dressed with a sunhat and sunnys before being slathered in sun screen. We try to stay out of the sun in the hottest parts and stick to share where we can.
Would love to try this, it’s difficult finding a product that works, and is gentle on sensitive skin.
We keep sun safe wearing sunscreen and hats. We try and play in the shade when we can or not spending too long in the sun. We would love to try this sunscreen.
This would be a great trial for our wee family as we live on the sunny coast of Hawkes Bay and as this will be a propper summer where my now 15month old can benefit from sunscreen and play outside this product would be great to try. As he was too young last year to be and play outside I have yet to get a sunscreen for him. This would be great to try out
Hi, I would to be considered for this lovely product which is much needed for this weather. I currently use Banana Boat Sunscreen Lotion (AvoTriplex) for my kids which is great and easy to apply. However, I have not tried Dry Balance Lotion and Roll on so would love to try them and provide my feedback. For sun protection, we all use good sunscreen, sun hats, sun glasses and drink loads of water. Thanks
this be good as we go to the beach alot in the summer time with my young nefeuws and my girl and they are for ever felling sticky.
These would be so good for my nearly one year old and my nearly four year old. I’m quite good at applying sunscreen on my babies, plus I’m trying to keep them out of the harshest sun usin sun shelter when on the beach, and keep them well hydrated, hats and sunnies on. Thank you.
I currently have a 1, 3 and 5 year old. Each day sunscreen is applied to them all. They also were a hat at Kindy or School. Kindy and School also that sunblock available. Sometime it is just too hot to play outside so we have to have inside play
I would love to trial these two fabulous products. The roll on would be perfect for my baby who is 14 months old and my 3 other kids two boys 6 and 8 and my girl who is 12 could use the Dry Balance. We head up North for 4 weeks of Christmas holidays and live at the beach. So its swimming everyday for us and we would need alot of sunblock. Thanks Kidspot.
My 2.5 year old loves swimming and being in the sun and luckly she likes helping put her sunscreen on! She would love the novelty of a roll on!!
My 3 and 6 year Olds have just started wanting to apply their own sunscreen so the roll on would be a fantastic way to encourage them to continue. They are always out enjoying water play and outdoor play so would welcome the opportunity to try new products. Thanks.
We love going to the beach as often as possible during the summer with our extended family. We keep our 2 kids, 5 nieces, 3 nephews, and 4-month-old grand-niece safe by ensuring they wear sunscreen, wear breathable clothes, wear a cap/hat with UPF, and keep themselves hydrated.
My 2 toddlers live for playing outside however I get a bit nervous with our sun being the way it is. They always wear sunblock but I do find some a tad on the greasy side.
Thanks would love to try these sunscreens especially the roll on it sounds quick and easy. I have been looking for a suitable sunscreen for my 3 children aged 11, 5 and 16months. I have a baby due next week and need to replace my current expired sunsceen. The dry balance sounds good for the older two kids to take to school. We live in hawkes bay where the sun is lethal. The gentle formulation and fragrance free appeals to me as i worry about what chemicals can be absorbed in through their young delicate skin.
Have two boys aged 8 and 10. When in the sun we keep them covered up, hat and sunnies and we apply sunscreen every two hours. We try to keep them in the shade as much as we can. The NZ sun is so harsh on our bodies. Would love to trial please 🙂
Yes would love to try these on my busy, active boys who enjoy time outside with a hat & sunscreen 🙂
I would to try this on my boys ive heard great reviews about this brand i have tried a few others but none seem to keep them safe from the sun they also have sensitive skin so finding a sunscreen that doesnt make them itch is very hard id bet this would be the perfect one! 😊
Would love to try these on my youngest 4 children. Trying to find a sun cream that works is hard, especially with their pale Irish skin, they burn so quickly
We keep our boys sun safe with sunscreen hats and shade. With 2 active boys the roll on would be amazing to try
I’m keen to try this out as we’ve had issues with sunscreen & sensitive skin but this sounds like it would be perfect. We’re a hat loving family & we’re working on sunglasses for the toddler, he’s more keen on wearing Mum or Dad’s though : )
I keep them sun safe by applying sunscreen in the morning, making sure they have a hat on during the day, making sure we’re under shade if we’re out, and reapplying sunscreen after swimming, sweating, or 2 hours.
This would be awesome to trial – my 5 year old is really fussy about stuff on her skin, she HATES the greasy sunscreen feeling (so do I to be honest!). She also gets it into her eyes often and it really stings! The roll on would be very handy to have in the handbag for a quick face application 🙂
I would absoloulty love to trial this on our 5 children particly our 8month old daughter who is very fair with red hair, also our fair 2year old. Our 6,8,10 year olds are very active in the sun, This would be great for our family to trial with the warm weather
My family only use Banana Boat sunscreen because it doesn’t react on my husbands skin. we love being outside and spending time at the beach too – Slip, Slop, Slap and wrap – and maybe a cheeky nap too
I would love to try these products!! With a family of 3 kids a one year old girl, 3 year old boy and 13 year old girl Ive got baby, preschool and teenagers covered!! Plus adults. Me and dad work outside most of the time so be great for us too!
We slip, slop, slap, wrap, hydrate, and take cover at those peak burn times 🙂
we would love to review the Banana Boat Dry Balance SPF50+.I like how it is non greasy and Fragrance free as my son does not like to wear a sun tan lotion that has a smell and it can be hard to no if the sun screen you buy has a smell or not . We use a 50+ sunscreen and make shore to wear a hat and stay in the shade when we can .I all so get my son to wear a shirt on very hot days as having a collar on it protects his neck more the shirt is only thin cotton so he does not get that hot . We try to Avoid the sun during the hottest times of the day. and make shore we put the suntan lotion on often .
This would be awesome, I didn’t know there was a roll on sunscreen. This would be perfect for my wiggly seven month old girl. My three year old boy loves being outside, running around and playing. This sunscreen pack would keep both kids sun safe. The roll on would be great for my bag too to use when out and about. No sticky messes if it leaks out.
