Have fun in the summer sun with Banana Boat

Kiwis are very aware of the harmful effects of the sun but recent research* shows that we aren’t that great at keeping up with our sun smart routines. Do you remember to reapply sunscreen after two hours in the sun? Or after swimming? The research revealed that in the past 12 months 35% of Kiwi kids have been sunburnt and parents admitted that forgetting or finding it too time consuming was their main reasons for not applying or reapplying sunscreen to their kids.

How much? As a guide, each application requires 7 teaspoons of product – 1 per limb, 1 for your front, 1 for your back and one for your face, neck and ears
How often? Reapply at least every two hours or more often after swimming, sweating or towelling off – make it simple for yourself by setting a timer on your phone

“Reapplying sunscreen at the right time is really important, but less than a third of Kiwis are reapplying every two hours according to the research, putting families at risk of sun damage. It’s also very important to remember to reapply after swimming, perspiring or towelling off.” (Associate Professor Rosemary Nixon, Consultant Dermatologist).

Would love to try this out specially with all this crazy hot weather atm we are hiding inside from. We have a shade sale on our deck above the paddling pool which helps keeps my kids out of the direct sunlight. Not much hiding from it on the boat tho so this would be great to trial on there and even better roll on for the toddler

Never tried Banana boat sun screen as I have heard bad things about it’s effectiveness, it would be nice to have the chance to try it out for myself and see how it works out for our family and wee bubba, and hopefully put the bad opinions of it to rest

We always apply sunscreen to our children every time before they go outside. Without it, they can feel their skin burning in as little as a few minutes! A sunhat is a must and sunglasses if going on a day trip to the beach or outdoors. We choose a high SPF Sunscreen and have taught our children to re-apply often.

I find it very hard to keep hats on the kids so it is continuously applying sunscreen that has to do the trick. A lot of trying to get them to play in the shade, but it is out of my hands when they are at School so the sunscreen goes on in the morning and then again when they get home 🙂

  5. Mands1980 05/12/2017 at 1:44 pm

We make the children put on sunscreen every few hours and more times when swimming, staying in the shade when possible we put up our gazebo, wearing rash vests, sunhats. With the hot sunny days we are having now it is very worrying that we have a great sunscreen product we would love to try out these Banana Boat sunscreens and see how they go.

Yes please! My kids have very fair skin but love being outside so we go through heaps of sunscreen but have never tried Banana Bot.

I would love to try Banana boat sunscreen for my little man 🙂 He absolutely loves the outdoors so are forever applying sunscreen, putting on a hat and sitting him in the shade!

I am always putting sunscreen on my young ones! I have very pale and freckly skin myself, so I want to make sure my kids don’t get burnt. We try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day, and when we are out I sunscreen them and re-apply often. Our other tactic is to cover up – hats and longer sleeves when possible, and hang out in the shade for breaks. My youngest is almost 2 and she’s the trickiest to sunscreen, so I would love to try this new product. The roll-on is a great idea too and will help me to train my boys to apply their own. Thanks!

My son, he loves summer days
    Our house fronts a reserve
So often, on his bike he plays
    Whilst I sit, and observe

To protect him from New Zealand’s harsh sun
There are rules for my young chap
    Dressed in cool, loose clothing
He slips, slops, slaps and wraps

A cool shirt (preferably with long sleeves)
    And sunscreen 50 plus
A helmet when he’s on his bke
    And sunglasses are a must

And when he wanders down the road
The beach, two minutes walk from our home
His helmet’s replaced with a wide brimmed hat
That sports and protects his dome

If playing a while in the sand
    A picnic we sometimes take
And a beach umbrella to provide some shade
    Whilst sandcastles he makes

We also remember to take with us
Plenty of cold water to drink
As the sun heats up, and we get hot
    And thirstier than you’d think

    We love the NZ summer
But one thing is for sure
We’re forever running out if sunscreen
    And always needing more

Please consider my family for this trial
For Christmas holidays there’s nothing better
    Than enjoying family time together
Whilst protected from this fine weather

    🙂

Would love to try this for my 4 years old and 9 months old babies. They both love to be outside and in the water too. Never tried this brand before so would love to try it.

We keep the family sun safe by putting on sunscreen, not showing too much skin while in the sun and hats at all times. We make sure we take sunscreen with us. The heat in the sun lately is very intense so it pays to be very safe than sorry. We also have a sunshade which is attached to the car and if we go to the lake for dinner or out and about we pull this out to keep us all out of the sun. Would be such a blessing if we got to trial this product as the sunscreen these days is almost out and would love to try other options.
    Thanks kidspot

I have a 4 & a 2 year old who love being outside and in the water. But before that they’re lathered in sunblock, hats & tees to cover as much skin as possible. And with a record summer looming I’d love to try these out!

  13. Mummyof3 05/12/2017 at 1:12 pm

Would love to try this especially as we have a baby again with #3 I keep my family sun safe with sun block, hats and long sleeve rash suits for the beach. We also try and avoid that midday sun when the rays are at their worst. I try and encourage sunglasses too to save their eyes but that can sometimes be a losing battle!!

  14. Stef Chapman 05/12/2017 at 1:09 pm

I keep my nearly 3 year old and 5 month old sun safe by completely covering them with sunblock a few times a day and making sure they are wearing there hats when they go outside. There are so many brands and types of sunscreen so it’s hard to know which one is best.

  15. Crystalwinter 05/12/2017 at 1:04 pm

Mr 3 and I have been cruising out to Raglab a couple times per week and this would be great to try out. He’s a water baby and trying to keep him sunblocked can be a challenge. We are currently using Kmart brand sunscreen would be great to compare!

  16. Gabc1 05/12/2017 at 1:04 pm

I always make sure my kids are covered with a hat and sunscreen and I make sure they have sunscreen on 20 mins before swimming or going outside.

  17. sophiepage 05/12/2017 at 12:57 pm

I would love to trial these products for both my 3 year and old and my almost 1 year old. I try my best to always keep hats on my children, be in the shade and wear sunblock but it’s so hard to find a sunblock that is good and gentle in children’s delicate skin. I have heard amazing things about this brand of sunblock so I’d love the chance to try it for myself 😀

  18. Wgtnness 05/12/2017 at 12:51 pm

I would love to try this. one of my daughters gets itchy from sunscreens so be good to see if she can wear this.
We keep safe in the sun by putting sunscreen on before we go put in the sun. then we keep reapplying. we wear t-shirts or rash tops and we sit in shade where possible. we also wear a hat

  19. Samantha Bolton 05/12/2017 at 12:51 pm

I would loveeeeeee to trial these products. I have a new baby and a toddler who could live outside so would love to know they’re being super sun smart. We wear wide brimmed hats and stay in the shade as much a possible 🙂

  20. clloyd 05/12/2017 at 12:47 pm

This would be perfect as we need a new family sunscreen soon and I want to try. different one. We are always out with my 2 kids plus care kids during the week, parks, beach and on our deck for water play or in sandpit.

  21. wince192 05/12/2017 at 12:44 pm

When my eldest daughter was at daycare they had the “no hat no outside” policy so we have done the same at home! everyone puts sunblock on after getting dressed and my eldest has some in her school bag to re-apply while at school.

  22. Heather_D 05/12/2017 at 12:43 pm

We’re all pretty good with being sun safe, you have to be in New Zealand -we find shade where possible through the day, wear hats and sunscreen – my 6 year old has a clip on sunscreen and re-applies it at school through the day… as we’re all very pale skinned and are pink after short spurts in the sun if no sunscreen or keeping covered… reapplying sunscreen is really really important and one of the key things I teach my children – that, and constantly saying ‘where is your hat’ …’can’t go outside if you don’t have a hat’ 🙂

  23. aprilc 05/12/2017 at 12:43 pm

Currently using Nivea. Would love to try this

  24. janiceynz 05/12/2017 at 12:29 pm

We keep our family safe by making sure hats are worn and sunscreen applied regularly. Also making sure we find a shady spot to retreat to on sunny days.

  25. Ratw0man 05/12/2017 at 12:23 pm

We use sunblock and wear hats, and always have a sunshade up when we’re out in the sun, so we can still enjoy the fresh air without sitting in the sun

  26. rochelleg 05/12/2017 at 12:22 pm

The kids must wear a hat when outside. Also have sunglasses and my toddler is now using his paddling pool which I am super glad I brought with a built in sun shade as he does not listen to me all that well! He is 18 months old so sunscreen is very important for his skin. My nearly 11 yr old gets told to apply but she does a rubbish job but I guess at least she is trying. Trying to use shady areas in the afternoon as well 😀

  27. Gale Fedman 05/12/2017 at 12:18 pm

We use a sunscreen with 50+, wearing hats and light long sleeves tops and pants, and try to be in the shadow. I heard that according to recent independent research the most of sunscreens have a lower factor than stated. It’s
a scary thing for a country like New Zealand who is in a top of skin cancer. I would love to try new good quality sunscreen which I can trust my and my kids’ health.

  28. richally 05/12/2017 at 12:09 pm

my 2 kids are super pale with porcelain skin we worry every summer!!!

  29. Syboo 05/12/2017 at 12:06 pm

I would love to try this please. My kids react to every sunscreen we tried so far (rash) and we are having troubles finding one they are fine with. They spend lots of time outside so really need a good protection. And I get burnt within 10 minutes without so would love to give it a go too!

  30. KylieK 05/12/2017 at 11:59 am

My kids & hubby are always outside either swimming or fishing in the summer. I’m always on the lookout for a great sun cream that protects them well. Our NZ sun is harsh so 50+ is a must especially for my lilly white skin that gains extra freckles as soon as I think about going outside in the sun!
