You can teach your child some basic sewing skills by making these simple scented heart sachets together for a lovely homemade Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day gift.
What you need:
- 1 x A4 piece of felt
- 1 x FREE heart template
- cotton wool
- perfume or essential oil
- scissors
- needle and thread
Activity:
Use the FREE heart template (it’s the same template that you can use to make Sticky window hearts) to cut two identical heart shapes out of your felt and then lay them on top of each other. Now use a simple running stitch-to-stitch around the edge of the heart.
Stop before you close it up completely, leaving a 2cm gap.
Spray a few drops of your favourite perfume onto some cotton wool. Alternatively you could use a few drops of an essential oil.
Fill the pillow with scented cotton wool before sewing up the gap.
Add embellishments if you wish – bows or another small heart in a contrasting colour.
Now you have a nice scented drawer sachet! Or make a few and string them together for a sweet-smelling decoration.
Thanks to Kidspot Australia for creating the instructional video and printable templates.
Hehe very cute, I might do this with my 6 year old daughter, or get her Dad to do it with her to give me for Mother’s day 🙂
Wow I’d love to teach my daughter this and so easy to do . My daughter loves doing crafts and loves smelly things as well she will even pick the scents.
Oh nice these would be perfect for all our clothing draws as I know sometimes after a while some of them get that musty smell about them. Me and my daughter might have to do this and get creative and have fun on the weekend.
Ooohhh a great idea for a mothers day craft too…since thats fast approaching…will share with my daughters class at school… they may want to do this as a class project
..brilliant!!
