April Fools’ Day: Jack in the jewellery box prank

April Fools’ Day: Jack in the jewellery box prank

April Fools' Day is a fun time to play some practical jokes. This Jack in the jewellery box prank is not only a quirky little joke your kids can play but making it will also be good for their fine motor skills.

What you need:

  • a pic of one of your kids (with a small head cut out)
  • 2 strips of contrasting coloured paper (2.5cm x 30cm approx.)
  • a small ring box or jewel box
  • glue
  • sticky tape
  • scissors
  • a hole punch

Number of players:
2

Activity:

Resize a photo of your child so that the head is about 1.5cm across.  Print it out and cut out the head part.

Now make a spring out of paper: Lay the two strips of paper perpendicular to one another, with the ends matched up. Now fold them over each other alternately until you have made a concertina spring.

Fasten the ends with a bit of sticky tape.

Glue the head pic to the top end of the paper spring.

Use glue or sticky tape to attach the other end to the inside of the box.

Make some confetti out of coloured paper with the hole punch.

Press it down, sprinkle confetti over the top of it and close the box.

Give it to someone as a 'special gift' and watch their face as your head pops out of the box along with sprinkles of confetti!
