Curly birds paper craft

This super simple paper craft will yield you some pretty fancy looking curly birds.

What you need:

• coloured paper
• scissors
• glue
• lead pencil

The fiddliest bit about this craft is cutting the strips to size.  Once you've done that, you're good to start curling and gluing your birds together and before you know it, you'll have made a whole flock of them.

All the strips (except for the eyes) should be approximately 2cm wide with differing lengths. So here's a guide to the lengths:

Body:  5cm, 7.5cm, 10cm, 12.5cm, 15cm

Tail: 6cm, 8cm, 10cm, 12cm, 14cm

Head: 6cm, 8cm

Beak: 5cm

Eyes: 3cm x 2.5cm

Once you have all your strips cut, start with the body.  Lay the strips on  a-top the other, from largest to smallest. Every second strip, leave a 2mm gap (see video) to allow you room to curl each piece over and glue it.

Once you have them all glued, start from the top and curl each piece over, gluing it in place (see video.) You should end up with concentric circles.

Now do the tail. Lay each one on top of the other, longest to shortest. Glue them in place. Use a pencil to curl the end of each tail feather.

Now make the head the same way: use two strips to make two concentric circles.

The beak will be one piece of yellow, glued into a circle and then fold three corners to form it into a triangle.

For the eyes, just roll up the piece of black paper really tightly.

Now glue everything together. Watch the video if you need some hints on how it all goes together.

Once you've got the hang of it, make a whole flock of curly birds.
