How to make a UFO paper plane

How to make a UFO paper plane

Making paper planes is a simple paper craft activity for kids that leads to fun outdoor games as they fly their paper airplanes. This unusual UFO model has a smooth glide and is easy to launch.

What you need:

  • 1 x A4 sheet of paper

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Watch the video tutorial to find out how to make your UFO paper plane.

Place your A4 sheet onto the table with the short edges top and bottom.

Fold the top left corner down to and even with the right side. Unfold.

Now fold the right corner down to and even with the left side. Unfold.

You should now have two creases in an X shape across the top square of your A4 sheet. Flip the page over.

Fold the top edge down so that you are folding the square in half. Unfold.

Flip the page over and press at the centre point of all the creases. Make a squash fold by pressing the sides in and pushing down on the top to fold in the sides. You should end up with a pitched roof house shape.

Now fold the top right section of the triangle up to the centre point (see video). Do the same on the other side.

Fold the top point down, about 4cm.

Insert the two pointy sections into the two pockets (see video).

Press down on the top to make sure the sections are tucked in firmly. Flip over.

Fold the left side over, creasing from the top left corner to the bottom left corner.

Fold back a small flap; fold it back to the left (see video). Do the same on the other side.

Now your UFO is ready to launch. Slip your fingers into the pocket beneath the UFO and launch it by letting it slide off your fingers.

It should have a nice even glide.
