Activity:
Print out this FREE printable and watch the video tutorial to get a better understanding of how it works.
Sit with both hands facing you, palm-side up. Number each finger from 1 to 10, going from left to right.
Remember that numbering.
To work out 2 x 9:
Bend down the 2nd finger along.
How many fingers to the left of that finger? 1
How many fingers to the right of that second finger? 8
2 x 9 = 18
To work out 3 x 9:
Bend down the 3rd finger along.
How many fingers remain to the left of the 3rd finger? 2
How many fingers remain to the right of the 3rd finger? 7
3 x 9 = 27
Try it for the whole nine times table. It works every time!
