Mini dinosaur fossil dig

Mini dinosaur fossil dig

If your kids are anything like mine, they'll be dino obsessed. So even though everyone knows dinosaurs were 1000 times bigger than the plastic toy ones you keep stepping on, they will get a kick out of creating these fossils and then 'digging' for them later. Also cute to do at a dinosaur themed or adventure party!

What you need:

  • Air-drying clay
  • Plastic dinosaurs
  • Also fun: sand (or, if you have none, salt or flour), a box or bowl, a paint or pastry brush

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Step 1. Gather up what you need for the mini dinosaur fossil dig.

Step 2. Break off a piece of clay and warm it up in your hand (or have your child do so) by squeezing and squelching until it's soft enough to form. Roll into a ball.

Step 3. Slightly flatten on a hard surface

Step 4.  Press your dinosaur's foot into the clay so it creates an imprint. Also try their patterned skin, heads or spikes (like on a stegosaurus). Leave to dry until hard.

Step 5. Place in a bowl and cover with sand, salt or flour and let your kids brush away the sand to reveal their fossils.

Step 6. Wow! Your kids have just found real dinosaur fossils!
