Pool game for baby: Monkey on the bar

What you need:

  • shallow pool with rail or bar; waist deep for mum or dad is fine
  • supervising adult

Number of players:
2+

Activity:

Stand with your child against the edge of the pool with the bar or rail.

Place your child’s hands on the bar.

Moving along, bring your child’s hands one over the other across the bar until they reach the end.

Pulling your child away from the bar, swim them back to the original position in the water paddling their hands and helping them kick their legs.

Go around again.

Notes:

  • This exercise helps your child to learn about gripping and holding on to the edge of the pool. When swimming back to the start, you are showing them how to get back to the edge of the water. You will soon notice that your child is starting to move in the water freely and unaided.
