Pool noodle word spinner

Pool noodle word spinner

Sometimes kids are more interested in learning when it involves hands-on play. This easy word-spinner activity is a fun way to build your child's spelling and reading skills.

What you need:

  • 2 different coloured pool noodles
  • a bread knife
  • black marker pen
  • 50cm of rope
  • a stool or chair

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Slice 2 x 5cm sections from one colour pool noodle and one 5cm section from the other colour.

Place them together, side by side, with the contrasting colour in the centre. Keep them in place while you write the letters on them by using toothpicks to fix them in place.

Now use a black marker pen to write:

s d m b l p  around the first section

a e i o u      around the middle section

t n w p g d   around the last section

Thread them onto the piece of rope, in the correct order (with the vowels in the centre).

Tie each end to the legs of a stool or chair, anywhere a toddler or small child can sit comfortably and spin the letters into place to form words.
