Having your own dress-up box loaded with kids’ costumes is a great way to keep your kids busy (and boost their imaginations), plus it’s also a great back up for dress-up parties, Halloween or school dress-up days.
Make your own no-sew dress-ups
Now, if you want to get crafty and create some beautiful homemade dress-ups, watch these videos for inspiration. They’ve all been road-tested, are relatively simple and do not involve any sewing.
Make a no-sew cape
This is a great basic cape idea. You can make a red one for super heroes or a black one for witches and vampires. We made a personalised magician’s cape.
Make a no-sew witch hat
Again this one can be adapted for all sorts of other characters. For instance, to make a wizard’s hat, just make the cone shape and stick stars and moons on it.
Make a no-sew tutu
Turn your little chid into a fairy princess with this easy tutu that can be worn over normal clothes. Watch this video to get the step-by-step instructions.
Make a no-sew fairy wand
This is not just any wand, it’s a flower fairy wand! This one requires a hot glue gun but is well worth the effort. Magical play is a wonderful way to show children that anything is possible.

Oh I would love to have that no-sew tutu…lol for myself 😛 I am always daunted into making my own costumes as I’m not a sewer or crafty. But these videos are telling me to be hopeful and there’s no limit to being creative.
These looks so easy but so effective! The best thing is that they are not specifically Halloween costumes and can be used for general dress ups or costume parties!
Thank you as I am not a sewer at all. Would love to make a Dinosaur costume but imagine you would need to do some sewing for that. Might just settle for the pirate for now.
What a fantastic lot of ideas for no sew costumes. Often I would like to give our boys costumes to play in for dress up but I wouldn’t know how to sew them. To know there are ways around this is great!
These ideas are fabulous, I really like the look of the pirate one! For those of us who do not sew particularly well, it is great to have some options that still look fantastic. I love it when my hot glue gun comes in handy too 🙂
love the pirate costume. Would be great to see a dinosaur one. I think a cowboy costume would be easy as well.
I love these ideas the less complex the better as we are all so busy it’s hard to find lots of time to make dress up clothes. Usually I sew things but this is even better that I would not need to use the machine. All kids love to dress up and these are great.
Very cool ideas, I would use these if I celebrated Halloween 🙂 We don’t in our household and that’s a choice we made as a family. Although some of these costumes would be cool to make just because!! 🙂
I have made a tutu before and found it relatively easy. I hadn’t thought about a pirate costume before, but that does look very easy and it looks great too! I love the idea of no sew. I have a sewing machine but I’m a bit hopeless with it. I barely know what to do with it. Lol
