Firstly, Thankyou so much for choosing my family to be a part of trying the new bargain box choice out. Really enjoyed the meals and cooking them.
I ordered the 5 meals for 6 people
We chose together the
Mongolian style beef
Korean fried chicken tacos
Crispy southern chicken drums
Middle eastern lamb loaded wedges
Spice rubbed beef rump steaks
All these meals were all super tasty, the kids all loved them no moaning once they had their meals.
They were really Quick and easy to put together which is great with a busy household of 6,4 and 1 year old twins this is what I need in my life.
They all had beautiful true taste, aroma flavours.
I found myself not taking long at all to get them ready/prepped.
Each meal we also had leftovers so they were even just as nice the next day for lunches.
Thank you so much for letting my family try this box and we will definitely be doing it again with this busy household I have.
I will post some
Photos also 🙂
We were so excited to see we were selected for the Bargin Box trial for 5 nights 4 people, the worse thing about writing out my shopping list each week is trying to decided what to have for dinner every night, we end up having the same old boring dinners each week, with Bargin Box it was so nice to have a list of family friendly meals for as to chose from, my Children 7 & 5 sat with me while we decided what to have. My oldest chose the first two, Korean Fried Chicken Tacos and Smoky Mexican Veggie Cheeseburgers, she chose these on the name of the meal and the picture of what the meal looked like, my youngest then went on to choose her two, she chose the Mongolian Style Beef with Jasmin Rice as she thought it was Princess Jasmin rice and her second choice Middle Eastern Lamb Loaded Wedges, she chose this one for the lemon water she saw in the picture, I chose the last meal Crispy Southern Chicken Drums.
I was surprised to see how big the box was when it arrived, the kids were super excited to get in and start unpacking all our delicious food, they looked over the recipe cards and decided what to have for dinner, for the first night they choose Smoky Mexican Veggie Cheeseburgers, yum yum yum, they could not scoff it down fast enough, neither could by husband who normally complains about a vegetarian meal. The kids also enjoyed getting their hands messy and helping Dad cook this yummy meal.
All of the meals were super delicious it was hard to decided what our favorite was but it would probably come down to either the Korean Fried Chicken Tacos or the Crispy Southern Chicken Drumsticks.
Compare to other meal delivery options the Bargin Box meals were easy and quick to cook using only a few dishes, for busy working parents this is want you want on a week night giving you more time to spend with your family. The kids did not complain once about any of the meals and Miss 7 went back every night for seconds, with a few of the meals there were left overs which made for a tasty lunch for 1 the next day. I would total recommend Bargin Box to my family and friends, I will also purchase Bargin Box in the future as a treat. Bargin Box does not delivery to my area which means I have to go to my parents place in Gulf Harbor to pick it up, if Bargin Box was to widen their area for deliveries I would seriously consider ordering Bargin Box weekly
My first impression of the Bargain Box was how much food was in there for five nights for two people. The quality of the meat and vegetables was impressive. The recipes looked easy to follow and I felt excited (and a little bit nervous) about cooking them.
Meal 1: Crispy Southern Chicken Drums with Mash and Gravy. I loved all of it, including the slaw, with grated beetroot. My son liked the chicken, but not the coating on the skin (a sweet-spicy combo of pepper, garlic, paprika and Chinese five spice), and found the gravy too salty (it was a delicious sage and mustard flavour but perhaps not something all kids would like). He did, however, eat up all the mashed potato.
Meal 2: Mongolian Style Beef with Bok Choy and Jasmine Rice was the easiest to make. My son’s first comments were: “Looks yummy”, followed up by “Tastes yummy”, followed up by “Can we make this again?” He ate everything up and liked the Mongolian sauce (a mix of soy sauce, tomato paste and other mild spices). The fact that my son willingly ate carrot, spring onion, mung bean sprouts was miraculous and I am going to add a stir-fry with mince in future to dinner ideas.
Meal 3: Spice Rubbed Beef Rump Steaks with Feta Roast Veggies. This was quite quick to make although the cooking time took a while. The rub on the beef had good flavour and we both enjoyed it with the honey mustard mayo. I enjoyed all the veggies, although I think I didn’t coat them in enough oil, and the addition of cooked feta and wilted spinach gave them more flavour. My son tried everything but enjoyed the meat and kumara the most.
Meal 4: Korean Fried Chicken Tacos had great flavours in the slaw and sesame mayo, as well as the sticky sauce for the chicken. This recipe didn’t make as big a meal as the others – the tortilla wraps were quite small with a great texture and taste – but it was eaten quickly and we both loved it.
Meal 5: Middle Eastern Lamb Loaded Wedges. This took a while to prep but was such a great idea for a meal with an authentic taste and aroma. I added two extra kumara as two potatoes didn’t seem enough and it was my favourite meal of the week. The yoghurt sauce that went with this was also delicious.
We were really lucky to get to turn such delicious ingredients into tasty meals.
Firstly, thank you so very much for the opportunity to trial Bargain Box! Its has been a fun novelty and we are so very impressed with our meals!
We are a family of three…Mum, Dad and our 8 year old daughter. When considering what option to apply for, I opted for the 5 meals for 2 people. I was eager to see if a 2 person box could stretch to two adults and one child. My review will consist of general pros and cons but also notes on each meal’s ease of recipe, taste and general acceptance with the family.
Excited to pick our meals for the week, I found the Bargain box website fairly user friendly. I initially had issue applying my code but was really impressed by the response and assistance when I phoned Bargain Box. Nil wait time, very pleasant staff member and problem resolved very quickly with even a call back! I loved browsing the menu, looking at each recipe and it’s list of ingredients. Great to have nutritional values added also. Really think the selection of meals were great! I do not eat pork and lamb but found 5 meals which were a great mix of vegetarian and chicken and beef. A very important factor for me, so really rapt with the variety of meats available.
Delivery of our meals was without incident. Delivered on time and I appreciated a test message to inform of actual drop off. Boxed well with nil damage to any ingredients. Meat and fresh produce look very fresh, cannot fault. Packets and other condiments labeled well and all very easy to tear open during cooking. No saucy/oily fingers fumbling to get small packets opened! A small detail, but one that I loved!
Meal sizes varied but always provided a decent meal for two people. We all have large appetites so if I were to continue purchasing Bargain box I do think I would need to purchase the 4 person box to ensure there was consistently enough for three. I find it a shame that there are often not options for 3 person families. There is always the tossing up between purchasing a 2 person or 4 person and price of paying for theoretically a whole other person really does determine my decision on purchasing food boxes. Anyhow…lets get to the recipes!
Crispy Southern Chicken Drums:
Yum yum yum! This really was such an easy recipe but taste was fantastic! My daughter and I shared this meal and I cooked solo after a busy day at work. Initially I didn’t think that two drumsticks each would be enough, but added with the rest of the meal we were well full up. We both loved the flavour of the chicken. I really enjoyed the slaw but my daughter wasn’t too keen. Granted she is a very good eater but has never really enjoyed coleslaws, so this recipe is still rated high on our list!
Smoky Mexican Veggie Cheeseburgers
We have been experimenting with a lot of vegetarian meals lately so we were eager to try this one. Miss 8 was in charge of this one and with little cooking experience she did really well. Was really neat to be able to hand her a colorful recipe with really simple words and instructions. We had fun in the kitchen that night : )
This would have been our least favourite meal taste wise, but we are used to eating a burger with meat so I do feel it is more a factor of trying something new which we are not too used too. Note that this recipe made enough for 3 people.
Mongolian Style Beef
We all loved this recipe so much…we forgot to take any photos!! Apologies, but even during cooking we couldn’t wait to get into it. A really tasty recipe with good protein and fresh vegetables. Again an incredibly quick and easy recipe but definitely not a budget meal. 10/10! Note, again this was enough for the 3 of us with a small amount of extra rice added.
Spice Rubbed Beef Rump Steaks
Not thinking we could top last nights meal…this recipe came along…Just fantastic! Dad and daughter enjoyed the steak while I had chicken with mine…unfortunately we could not get the steak to stretch to 3 this time. I am told the steak was absolutely amazing (Dad likely puts part of that down to the cooking of it however!) and the veges were perfect as a side. I absolutely loved the honey mustard mayo and will be adding this to many more meals to come. Loved that this was a meal consisting of only protein and veges. nice not to have empty carbs to bulk a meal. Felt like a meal we could have easily ordered out at a restaurant!
Kumara and lentil Moussaka
This meal was a big hit with me but a ‘take it or leave it’ with the family. Despite this, we all ate it and felt quite content afterwards. This was a healthy meal and it felt great serving it to my family. I did feel however that this was a slightly longer recipe to cook but the recipe card reflected this correctly. This provided enough for me to take a small serving to work the next day.
All in all, we are very impressed with Bargain Box and it has actually exceeded my expectations! Nothing bargain about it…except the price : )
Sincere thanks
Bargain box
Night 1;
Smoky Mexican veggie cheeseburgers with chipotle mayo.
Easy to prepare 4/5
Easy to cook 5/5
Easy to read recipe 5/5
I asked my 11 year old to help me cook tonight & he started off by reading the recipe to me then apart from needing me to dice the onion he was comfortable enough to boot me out of the kitchen & take over & cook these himself.
My family are meat eaters so there were a few sour faces when these were served but everyone gave them a go & were super surprised at how much these actually tasted like a normal meat burger! The texture was a little strange but the taste was goooood!!
They supplied us with enough to have 2 burgers each & they were super filling so we ended up having them the next night too.
Night 2
Mongolian style beef with bok Choy & jasmine rice.
Easy to prepare 5/5
Easy to cook 5/5
Easy to read recipe 5/5
Tonight my 6 year old helped me cook. Again the recipe was easy to follow so she was able to instruct me on what I needed to do & she helped out where she could.
Again the portion sizes are big so there was left overs for my husband to take to work for lunch.
The taste was pretty amazing but we all thought it could have done with a little extra sauce cause it gets lost in the rice & the mung beans were a bit much. Otherwise it was a pretty decent meal! The only displeased person was the 2 year old.
Night 3
Crispy southern chicken drums with mash & gravy.
Easy to prepare 5/5
Easy to cook 5/5
Easy to read recipe 5/5
The kids weren’t interested in helping to cook this one. As straight forward as it was it was boring to them because it was just a normal nights dinner in our house.
Flavour was a bit of a let down we thought. The chicken was bland & not at all what we were expecting & the coleslaw was under dressed. The gravy was amazing tho! My husband couldn’t get enough of that!
The portion sizes were on point & the only thing left over was the slaw.
Night 4
Korean fried chicken tacos with pear ginger slaw & peanuts.
Easy to prepare 3/5
Easy to cook 5/5
Easy to read recipe 5/5
This recipe had a lot more prep than the other meals
so far but I had all the kids wanting to help tonight so it was done pretty fast.
We were all a bit hesitant to try the slaw but it was actually pretty good & once everything was put together it was an amazing meal & I for one couldn’t get enough! I served it deconstructed on each plate so the kids could make their own at the table.
I even got to have some for lunch the next day so I was happy!
Night 5
Spice rubbed beef rump steaks with feta roast veggies.
Easy to prepare 3/5
Easy to cook 4/5
Easy to read recipe 5/5
There was a lot of prep for this one & because it was mostly cutting I did it on my own.
This was by far the best meal out of the 5!! The roast veggies & feta were just amazing!! My husband loved the steak while me & the kids were just all about the veggies. Thankfully we have plenty left over so we are already excited for lunch tomorrow!
Over all..
Pro’s.
The food quality & quantity are equally impressive!
The recipes are clear, easy to read & follow so the kids are able to get involved in the kitchen.
Kids are actually more open to trying new things without complaining because they’ve helped cook the food & this is rewarding for them!
The food is all so easy to prep every night.
The spicy dinner options are for everyone! I can’t stand spice but even I could eat the hotter meals & enjoy them!
It’s exciting choosing a recipe card in the morning & knowing exactly what you’re cooking that night. Theres no guessing & it takes so much stress away!
Con’s
Not everything is supplied. There are pantry items that you need to use but their idea of what everyone should have in their pantry is way off. Items like flour, salt, pepper, soy sauce I can understand but I had to buy vinegars that i had never heard of & I will never use again & sesame oil (which isn’t cheap) & soooo much Mayo!
They don’t tell you the extras you will need till after it’s too late to change your recipes.
We enjoyed trialing bargain box & are grateful for the opportunity!!
I was so pleased to be selected as a reviewer for bargain box! At home it is myself, my husband, 2 year old and 4 month old. Things can be pretty hectic and busy at 4.30/5pm right when dinner needs cooking!
Overall I loved that all the bargain box meals were fast and simple to cook, as well as easy preparation that the toddler could help with. I was impressed that there was 8 meal options that I could choose from to suit our family, we usually do “Meatless Monday” so it was great to also find a vegetarian option.
The day of our delivery we were out and so the box sat outside for 7 hours but it was packed so well that all our chilled goods remained cold. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was how fresh all of the produced looked and it got me excited to start cooking right away. The added touches such as the slivered almonds and chopped peanuts made our meals physically appealing and really showed the care put into the recipes.
The 5 meals we chose were:
-Crispy southern chicken drumsticks
-smokey Mexican vege burgers
-middle eastern lamb loaded wedges
-creamy one pot bacon Alfredo
-korean fried chicken Tacos
All of the dishes tasted amazing but our stand out dishes were the middle eastern lamb loaded fries and the Korean fried chicken Tacos, these also happened to be the 2 meals that our fussy toddler ate and asked for more of! I personally enjoyed cooking with lamb as it was a meat I don’t often buy and am not sure how to cook it to do it justice! My toddler loved helping chop up the many veges that came with the box and he liked seeing the meal come together and look like the picture on the recipe card. I even managed to get my husband in the kitchen and cooking too! He was shocked how quickly he was able to pull a delicious meal together and found the instructions easy to follow (which meant i could stay out of the kitchen!)
Another perk was having some leftovers for lunch the next day!
The convenience of bargain box can’t be denied! Having 5 nights dinners popped onto your doorsteop full of fresh produce, excellent cuts of meat and easy to follow recipes was amazing! I will definitely be ordering again!
I’d like to start by thanking you for the opportunity to trial the Bargain Box for 5 nights for 2 people. I would also like to mention that in my submission I stated that there are 3 in my family but because the boxes are always only for 2,4 etc and I’d heard there are generous portions and lots of people have leftovers, I was keen to try the box for 2 to see if it would stretch for a family of 3 like mine. So please keep this in mind as you read my review. We trialled a box for 2 people and it fed three of us. I should also mention my son is 9 ½.
The box arrived on a very rainy day but I have to say it was packaged beautifully. As I unpacked it and checked everything was there (it was – nothing missing at all) I noticed the little spice packets etc felt quite damp. Rest assured when I went to use them on the required days the spices/sliced almonds, sesame seeds etc inside were completely dry.
First up was Korean Fried Chicken Tacos. I have a confession to make. When I saw 300g of chicken (I would normally use 500g for us) I was a bit nervous and wondering what I’d gotten myself into for the week. I was worried one of us would be having eggs on toast all week! I did make sure to have a bit of extra chicken on hand because I was definitely nervous about this first meal. That said, I didn’t use my extra chicken – I cooked it for lunch wraps for the next day! So back to the Bargain Box inaugural meal – we loved it. The recipe was easy to follow, there was a ton of slaw and we all had plenty to eat. It was a total success! It took me slightly longer than the 30 minutes but the other four meals I managed to make in the time they said, so maybe it was just me, and it being the first one. We were fine with 300g of chicken between us. We had slaw left over which I used in above-mentioned chicken wraps for lunch the next day. My son is, shall we say, a fairly fussy eater? Not so much fussy maybe – he eats all the meals I feed him, but he eats incredibly slowly while complaining he’d rather be doing other things. He kind of just hates eating meals. He also isn’t a big fan of ginger. But he ate this meal really well – in fact, all of the meals, and I think he gave it a “not bad” which is a very high compliment coming from him! Hubby and I loved it. Enough said. It was a delicious meal and a total success in my opinion.
Night two was Mongolian Style Beef. Yum! This was definitely super quick to cook, we all had enough to eat (again, 300g mince for the three of us, but I didn’t get any extra ready “just in case” for this one!), and once again this meal for 2 fed three of us. No leftovers of course, for any of the meals, but I hadn’t expected any. I was just happy we were able to have enough for the three of us. One thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes the recipe calls for a half packet of things. In the chicken tacos it was a ½ packet of chopped peanuts. I’ll admit I threw them all in and it was delicious! In this meal, it was 1 tps sesame seeds, but I chucked them all in, as well as the full packet of mung bean sprouts! Firstly, I looked and saw there were no other meals for the week that called for the other ½ packet of mung bean sprouts so I really had nothing else to use them in. Secondly remember, three of us are eating a meal technically meant for two, so in they all went. The meal was delicious, we all loved it (again, a “not bad” from my son, and he ate quicker than usual so that’s really high praise!), and I don’t think adding the extra sprouts took anything away from the meal.
Our third meal was Middle Eastern Lamb Loaded Wedges and I must admit I’d been looking forward to this one all week. We’ve had a lot of rain and this looked like the ultimate comfort food. It did not disappoint! Hands down this was our favourite meal. They’ve all been delicious, but honestly, this one was just amazing. It was easy to cook and I think I kept to the allotted timeframe. Once again, it called for 45g cheese but I used all 90g (minus a thin slice that sort of went missing in the cooking process 😊 !!) It also said to use a ½ packet of sliced almonds. I threw them all in with total abandon. There was also a ½ cucumber left so I just sliced it and added it to our plates (after the photo of course) because as I’ve mentioned, three of us are eating a meal technically meant for two. And we haven’t had cucumber for a wee while being out of season, so we all enjoyed a few slices of it. We all had plenty to eat. Honestly. That said, this meal was so delicious we could have eaten it for days! I said to hubby that I was full but really wanted to go back for more. LOL I truly was full, but this meal was so good that it made you want seconds even though none of us needed seconds. And get this: my son exclaimed (yes, really, exclaimed) “this is delicious!!!” I have never heard those words out of his mouth at the dinner table. High praise indeed!
So my hubby had a hard act to follow the next night. He cooks one night a week while I take our son to music lessons. He was VERY nervous about cooking the Smoky Mexican Veggie Cheeseburgers. It’s mostly to do with the fact that he has a pretty limited repertoire. He cooks a mean omelette and is ace on the BBQ, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him follow a recipe. Not that he can’t mind you, it’s more a lack of interest. So I thought this would be interesting. I will be the first to admit that he did a superb job! I got home to a kind of organised chaos so just left him to the finishing touches while I did other things. Talking to him afterward he said he felt less nervous when he realised the burgers were in fact mashed up kidney beans, diced red onion, breadcrumbs and egg. I think he was nervous about doing mince burgers in a frying pan (as mentioned above he’s on better terms with the BBQ than the cooktop), but there was no need to worry. A few thoughts about this meal: Firstly, it was delicious and halfway through, my son asked what kind of mince it was! 😊 So there you go. We told him the kidney bean, vegetarian kind. He hadn’t realised. Secondly, the flavours were fantastic. Hubby did use the whole packet of chipotle sauce instead of half, as he said there wasn’t much chipotle mayo and thought we’d need a bit more so he doubled that part of the recipe. He didn’t want the burgers too big so they’d possibly fall apart but they were a decent size, and he manged to fill four buns with burgers and all the toppings. There is one smaller burger leftover for a lunch. We do have ½ a red onion left but I can use this another time. He said he used a little more than half a packet of the breadcrumbs but there are still some left. And because he’s not me, and doesn’t eat cheese while he’s cooking, we do have the other 45g of cheese left. But not for long, I can assure you! They’d sent a 6-pack of hamburger buns which is generous. We did use four last night and that last little patty might go on bun #5 today so it actually worked quite well. I should mention the recipe said to make 3 burger patties. Luckily for us it did make more. The lettuce we were given was also generous, a whole baby cos lettuce. We’ll use the rest on lunch sandwiches. The only downside to the meal was this: looking at the plate it just felt like there wasn’t enough veg. It was one burger in a bun on the plate and it looked a bit bare. I should point out that aside from the burgers being made from kidney beans and diced red onion, on the top of the burger was also sliced tomato, lettuce and sliced roasted capsicum. So technically it probably is enough veg. But compared to all the other meals so far where we’ve had lots and lots of veg in them, this just seemed like it needed more. Hubby microwaved a few frozen veggies for us. To be honest, the burger was filling and I probably didn’t need the extra veg, but it made us feel better to add some extra (after the photo was taken of course!).
Last up was the Spice Rubbed Beef Rump Steaks with Feta Roast Veggies. Looking at the recipe, it looks mouth-wateringly delicious with surprisingly few ingredients! What a beautiful meal with which to finish the trial! It was a winner – everyone loved it. The flavours were amazing and the veggies were delicious. We definitely had no leftovers at all but we again felt we’d had enough. Just. I’m not a huge fan of steak so admittedly I ate only a small portion, but I still had enough to eat. My son said it was really good, and he especially loved the honey mustard mayo on it. It seemed to easy to prepare. I’d cut up the veggies a bit earlier so when it was time to cook, it was so quick and easy, and I didn’t have a lot of things I was trying to do at once.
Some final thoughts on the Bargain Box for 2 people for 5 nights: The meals were delicious. We’d be happy to eat them all again (we could live on the loaded wedges!). My son liked, truly liked, all the meals. He actually didn’t complain about any of them, and one meal was even described as “delicious”. A first. We all had enough to eat every night. None of us were still hungry at the end of the meal, even though we stretched it between 3 people. We loved all the veggies that went with the meals, and some out of season which we wouldn’t normally buy this time of year. I think because all the other meals had so many veggies, the burger meal felt a bit lacking. But again, it was probably just our perception of it – a bunned burger on a plate does look a bit lonely, even though it had lots in it.
Some of the ingredients are clearly packaged for a family of 4, for example we were supposed to use 45g of the 90g block of cheese. So we had a few extras along the way – as mentioned earlier, cheese twice, mung bean sprouts, half a cucumber, half a red onion and a few sprinklings: chopped peanuts, sliced almonds, sesame seeds. Most of these I just threw into the recipe anyway, so it helped the meal fill the three of us and did not deter from the food in any way. We will use the other small bit of cheese and red onion this weekend (who am I kidding, I’m having the cheese for lunch today!) so those won’t go to waste. I don’t like food waste and I have to say that nothing we were given is going to waste.
I’ve mentioned my son is 9 ½. And while he complains through most meals because he’d rather be doing something else, he also does eat a fair amount. I gave hubby the largest portion, son the 2nd largest and at times I felt my plate looked a bit lacking. That said, I’ll be the first to admit that I had plenty to eat and did not go hungry. I think that just says something about my portion sizes other times, so it’s shown me that I really don’t need that much food on my plate each night! I think we could get away with the meal for 2 for a little bit longer, but probably not too much longer to be honest. Would have been fantastic when he was younger though as I wouldn’t have even worried about it feeding the three of us!
We really enjoyed the opportunity to trial Bargain Box, and have actually ordered another in about a week’s time. We’re looking forward to trying those recipes too. The meals are really easy to make, incredibly convenient, and taste great. They all turned out really well too.
Wow!! We absolutely loved our trial of Bargain Box Choice!! We received a 5 nights for 6 box and it was EPIC.
Firstly, choosing the meals was quick and easy with a great variety of choices. A no fuss way to plan your family meals. The produce arrived and was fresh and well packaged, clearly labelled and chocka-block full of wonderful nutrients to feed a busy family. The recipes were easy to use and our 8 and 9 Year old cooked all by themselves! Such a great way to foster independence and develop life skills. Even miss 6 made a meal with help, and mr 3 dived in to help his big brother make dinner. Gotta love it!
The baby (8 months) was able to eat many of the components with us such as the Mongolian beef mince and rice. Saved mum cooking different meals!
For every meal the portions were exceptionally generous and catered for lunches the next day. To us as a big family that means a saving in the pocket for purchasing extra lunch things and assured you that you are eating better, veg-filled meals both noon and night.
We ordered:
Chicken drums/mash/gravy/slaw – Mr 8 cooked this and it was a crowd favourite with quick and easy prep, great flavours, and a fun element of being able to shake the chicken in its coating. Making our own gravy was an extra highlight.
Spice rubbed beef steaks with feta roast veges- miss 9 Cooked this and we loved that there were lots of veges involved, making it both delicious and nutritious. The spice rub used was a great mix of flavours with a tiny hint of spice. This was voted top by all the diners in our family 🙂
Middle eastern lamb loaded wedges- mum made this and the mince was declared amazing! Baby ate two bowls full and the rest of the kids said they would eat this again. Mum and dad thought the flavour ‘Yellow spices’ for the wedges seemed odd to taste (a lot of turmeric perhaps) but that the yoghurt drizzle was inspired and tied it all together. We also used chicken stock for the lamb instead of beef to enhance the natural flavour of the lamb and help it Shine.
Mongolian style beef- mum made this and it was generously portioned with a lot of lovely veges. The sauce was perhaps too mild in flavour and could do with a bit more taste. The produce for this lasted beautifully and was still fresh when cooked today (6 days after delivery).
Korean chicken tacos- miss 6 helped with this one and it was amazing!!! We would never have thought to put these flavours in a taco but it was a party for the tastebuds and eaten with gusto! That’s another thing we loved about this box – it gave some Crowd favs yet also encouraged you to try different flavour combos! Would definitely make these again.
In today’s busy environment it’s so easy to jump to the takeaway option, over spend, or simply get stuck in a rut. We found that this box gave us plenty of great food, easy to make, no popping to the shops to make last minute thoughtless purchases as everything was there, saved on lunches the next day, and saved our tired braina from having to constantly think ‘what’s for dinner?!!!!’ We would highly recommend it.
Thank-you for the opportunity to trial Bargain Box Choice! A big thumbs up from us
I opted for the 3 meals for 4 people because there was 2 adults and 2 children. The website and app were easy to use. There was a lot of choices for the meals, although I only found 3 that I felt my family would like. We had the middle eastern lamb loaded wedges. When the kit arrived the lamb packet had a hole in it, so that’s why we opted for that first. Hubby cooked it. He found the recipe easy to follow. The packaging was convenient. The meal was tasty. Hubby, myself and our 4 year old enjoyed it, the 2 year old wouldn’t even try it. We liked the salsa as an alternative to a lettuce salads. We didn’t have red wine vinegar, so subbed in balsamic instead. There was enough left over for lunch the next day. We then tried the crispy southern chicken drums. Again, hubby cooked it and found the recipe easy to follow. We really liked the gravy with the mashed potato. The coleslaw was tasty, hubby was reluctant to use the beetroot, but was pleasantly surprised. The chicken was tasty and again everyone but the 2 year old ate it. There was leftovers again for lunch. The last meal we tried was the creamy one-pot bacon Alfredo. I cooked this one. I used the whole packet of pasta (instead of 2/3), extra bacon because we had some to use up and only half the mushrooms because we’re not mushroom fans. It was easy to make, just a bit time consuming. We all really enjoyed this one because bacon and pasta is always a winner with both kids. We ended up with enough leftovers for 2 more meals. I think it would be good value for money, definitely more affordable than other meal kits. We definitely enjoyed the meals more than the other kit we tried from another company. I quite enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, and given I’m a sahm it don’t find it too hard to prepare and cook from scratch, so wouldn’t continue with it at this stage, but if I was working I’d definitely consider, especially as you can opt for weekly or fortnightly delivery as well as 3,4 or 5 nights.
Our family would love to try Bargain Box for 6. You had me at bargain prices and delivery to the door! We have a large intergenerational family, so it is often hard to cater to everyone’s needs and wants. Thankfully we don’t have too many dietary requirements, however it does require a lot of planning (and stress) to get in enough veggies and proteins for growing bodies and minds. It’d be great to have planned options that take the stress out of meal prep. I’m reliably informed by my family that my easy go to options are becoming a bit boring, haha (!) so this would liven up dinner times. Thank you 🙂
We would love to trial bargain box, with Teenagers in the house the 6 person option would be great. We would like to trial bargain box so that we can learn some new recipes and can try to have some more vegetarian based meals. Everybody in our family helps with the cooking and the kids are learning to try new foods and combinations so something like this will help us to explore and learn new healthy food options. We look forward to seeing how the families who get chosen find bargain box – I really love the fact that there is more choice available now
We have tried HelloFresh and found it was not very family friendly with kids tastes. Would love to try out bargain box for a family of 6 and see how it goes. Our daughter is quite fussy when it comes to meals and I’ve had a good look at the menus and they look great! Quick and easy. Thank you for the opportunity!
I would love to try Bargain Box Choice for my family because it can be so hard trying to come up with new ideas for dinner time that appeals to Master 11, miss 7 months and even the husband.
Master 11 absolutely LOVES cooking so this would be something awesome for him to help me with or even cook himself.
We would love the 4 person box please. Thanks heaps Kidspot for giving us this opportunity to trial it.
Our family would LOVE the opportunity to review the new Choice Bargain Box as sometimes it’s hard to find meals that not only us adults will enjoy but also a teenager and a fussy seven year old will eat too. It’s awesome that the meals are not just healthy but look delicious! We would like the 4 person option if lucky enough to be selected to review!
We would welcome the opportunity to trail the 2 size box suitable for 2 adults and 1 child. I have my granddaughter in my care and find her a very fussy eater. With work and after school activities I’m not very tuned into making changes to meals and seem to stick to the same old routine so would welcome the opportunity to new ideas. If Bargin box does the trick I would become a committed customer.
Thanks Kidspot for giving us an opportunity to trail if chosen.
I would love to try this as I have tried two other competing products and would love to try a more affordable product
Would love to try Bargin Box have looked at it but with being single parent on low income these things get pushed to side and basics/ easy same meals usually. We have rather full schedule every week so having reasonably quick meals with all the ingredients will help immensely was gifted couple meals from family member from another company due to circumstances where they wouldn’t get to have them my boy enjoyed going back for more
Would only require meal for 2
I would love to have the opportunity to review Bargain Box. We have used an alternative meal box company in the past, and it would be nice to have a comparison.
As a family of 3, with an energetic toddler time together is precious to us. This includes being together in the kitchen and passing on beneficial skills to our toddler, especially eating well and being able to try all textures, flavors, combinations and using fresh/healthy ingredients to create a meal.
Our toddler isn’t a fussy eater, which is advantageous when it comes to new products and introducing new foods.
Yes please ! As I’m a 21 year old young mum and live off buying junk food for me and my little babe ! Would love to give this a go please
Our family of six would love the opportunity to trial the 6 person Bargain Box! With a baby, a teen and two in between, I’m always looking for meal inspiration and ways to include the kids in the kitchen. Having recently tried another meal delivery service we found that the meals were catered more towards adults. Bargain Box with a family friendly focus could be perfect for us.
I would love to try Bargain Box for my family. I struggle to think of new and exciting dinner options that my family will eat so this would be a great way to add new meals into our weeks. A 4 person for 5 nights box would be ideal to have a good trial of their meals and really get a feel for how it could fit into our busy lives and add some excitement to meal times.
We would love to try this. The other company we use isn’t very kids friendly and we ended up getting the subscription and buying for the kiddos. Box of 4-6 sounds awesome
What a great product to trial! We are a family of 6 with 4 growing boys who eat a lot and each have their own likes and dislikes so we would absolutely love to be considered to trail this new Bargain Box Choice for 6 🙂 We are a busy family who homeschool and have lots of extra activities (sports, etc.) so I am always looking for ways to save time in the kitchen as well as ease the load of keeping my family fed. This Bargain Box Choice looks great and I love that you are able to make your own selection of meals so that you can cater to the needs and likes/dislikes of your family members. With homeschooling my children I am always looking for ways that I can add to their learning and I think that by getting a Bargain Box which comes with recipes and the ingredients already put together and easy to use, that it would be a great way to get my kids learning how to cook and involved in helping out with the cooking. What a great skill it would be for them to learn and what a great way to do it!
I’m always trying to think up what to have for dinner that the kids will also enjoy. I love a good variety, I don’t like cooking the same meals all the time.
Would love the 4 person option. Dinner times can be so stressful and thinking of what to cook every single night can be a nightmare. Be great to save time, take the stress out of dinner and try out some new family friendly recipes that are different to our usual meals.
WOW!!!! What an opportunity when given choice! We are a family of 5, 3 teens! One a vegetarian, one a fussy eater and one who eats heaps! We would love to trial a box for six people! Our kids are extremely busy with sport, most nights of the week, plus with work, having the planned options would take the pressure out of cooking as well as provide our kids with nutritious options. Thanks, for the opportunity.
This would be either a great experience or yet another trial and error attempt to get my youngest daughter to eat a variety of nutritious meals I find it hard to find/make things that she will enjoy it will be interesting to see her and also other members (whanau) what there
Reaction to this would be. I’m excited to have the opportunity to maybe have first choice to test the new Barging Kai Box
I’ve always wondered how time efficient food boxes must be but always held back from signing on because I felt that pack and portion sizes might be too small.
Great if our busy and growing family of 4 could trail this for 5 days.
I would like the opportunity to try 6 people for 5 nights. Our girls are learning to cook, they each take a night of the week. It would be good to try if this is helpful for them.
This would be perfect for our family, I’d love to try the pack for 4 people please. My son(5) loves helping me with dinners so this would be perfect for more variety.
