Fun with their fingers and learning textures and tastes is what being a toddler is all about. From about 9 months, you will see a change in your child's behaviour and he will take advantage of the opportunity to play and feel with his fingers. This activity will let him explore safely.

What you need:

  • 1-2 cups of cold water
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 tbs salt
  • 1-2 cups of warm water
  • food colouring of choice
  • paper

Number of players:

Activity:

Step 1. Over low heat, combine the cold water, flour and salt.

Step 2. Whisk until you have a smooth paste.

Step 3. Adding hot water and whisking all the time, boil until the mixture is thick.

Step 4. Take off the heat and add your colouring to the mixture.

Step 5. Beat until smooth and let cool.

Play! Pass a small amount to your baby on a smooth surface or paper and allow him to feel play and create. The smaller the amount on a piece a paper, the more chance of it drying to create your babys first masterpiece.

Notes:

  • You can store unused paint in airtight containers in the fridge.
  • This recipe is non toxic so baby can taste too, although it will not be the tastiest dish.
