Make a monkey drum

Kids love drums and the noise it makes. This easy monkey drum is made from recycled materials and is a fun trash to treasure craft idea that will get your kids making their own music and dancing to their own beat.

What you need:

  • 1 paper plate
  • 1 paper towel tube
  • 2 beads
  • paints
  • string
  • scissors
  • glue

Number of players:

Activity:

Decorate your plate however you want to. You can use coloured markers, pencils, crayons or paints. Colour both sides or just one side. You can also colour the paper towel tube.

Measure from the outer edge of the plate to the centre, your pieces of string will need to be about that length. Cut the string, attach one to the right side of the plate edge and the other to the left side edge. Thread a bead onto each piece of string and secure with a knot.

Now cut two slits in the top of the paper towel tube. Squeeze some glue into the slot, then push the paper plate into the slot to attach it to the tube/handle.

When the glue is dry, twist the handle to make the beads hit the centre of the drum.
