Make a paper plate shaker

Make a paper plate shaker

Music is a great stimulus for children's learning. You can make your own musical instruments at home and create some wonderful sensory play. This paper plate shaker is a fun activity for kids.

What you need:

  • 1 x paper plate
  • coloured markers
  • 1 or 2 colours of crepe paper
  • stapler
  • 1/2 cup of rice

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Fold the paper plate in half.  Colour the outside of your shaker. You can use marker pens, pencils, paints or crayons. Whatever you have on hand will do.

Cut some strips of crepe paper and staple them to the curved edge of the shaker.

Now seal up the curved edge of the shaker with a stapler.  Leave about 5cm at one end so you can add the rice.

Pour the rice into the shaker and seal up the remainder of the shaker's edge.

Shake it! You won't break it! (Hopefully)
