Make your own chalk

Children will love seeing how chalk is made from plaster with this activity, and then get to draw with their creations!

What you need:

• Plastic gloves
• Plaster (powder form)
• Water
• Containers
• Stirring stick
• Tempera paint

Activity:

Wearing rubber gloves, mix a small amount of plaster with water in a container and stir with a stick until the plaster is creamy.

Add a small amount of tempera paint to the plaster in the colour of your choice.

Stir well to achieve a solid colour.

Pour the plaster into a small container.

After 30 minutes the plaster will harden and the chalk is ready to be used.

Notes:

• Always wear plastic gloves to protect your hands and do not breathe in the plaster dust.
